With 54% students from in-state and possibly more applicants from Texas applying, do you guys think it is harder or easier for out-of-state students to get into Rice?

Is it harder for Texans?

Or just about the same.

I think it is the other way around, with 45% instate. It has been this way for a couple of years [Future Owls](<a href=“Office of Admission | Rice University”>Office of Admission | Rice University)

The number of applicants from Texas are very high which makes the acceptance rate lower. It likely will give you a small advantage being OOS.

I spoke to Leebron at one of those cocktail parties they have for new parents of Rice students a year or so ago and he said they want to get more students from the northeast. Contact me b/c if you want more info.

^
Yeah, awareness of Rice is lacking in the Northeast and Midwest, so applying from there probably carries an advantage due to the comparatively low number of applicants.
