I was thinking; why do they make the engineers write a seperate essay? is it because they want to be more selective of engineers? Does this essay weigh as much as the others, because mine wasn't creative, just stated why i'm interested in engineering.

I was wondering the same thing. I heard engineering was easier to get into comparatively. What does everyone think?

No, Rapelye said there is an equal chance for BSE or AB to get in. Even undecided candidates have an equal chance.

my interviewer said that all colleges say majors supposedly don't matter, but in the end, when there's hundreds of equally wonderful applications and a couple of spots left, there's nothing else to differentiate between applicants but things like majors, etc.

My interviewer said that it all depends on the applicant pool that year. If more than 20% of the applicant pool are BSEs, then its harder. If less than 20%, its easier. He thinks that it offers a slight advantage most of the time.

Do you think it matters more if your extracurriculars are more oriented towards your selected major? I mean, i'm sure the major you denote has some significance? Or no?

i think that in the end, if it's just between you and some other guy, but u have a major nobody wants, you're more likely to get in. Also, I think ECs in your selected major are good because it shows that you're serious about it.

Bse Is Harder?!?!?!

I Thought For Ed, Bse Is Easier..

what majors would be considered ones people dont want though?

I have no idea; it was just a random question that came across my mind(even though all I can think about nowadays is Princeton). I was sorta wondering why they asked for an essay. Is computer science(BSE) a major no one wants? :)

BSE gets an ever-so-slight edge just b/c less ppl are applying to princeton for engineering than english/economics/political science. dont get your hopes too much if you checked BSE though, its really not that much of a difference

no. BSE is easier. if u apply ENGINEERING to ivies it is usually easier. why? because IVY LEAGUE engineering, though it is good, there are a lotta state schools (U Michigan and others) that have OUTSTANDING engineering schools, even better than the ivy league engineering schools. Why is there an extra "I want to study engineering..." question because the schools want to MAKE SURE they are accepting you into the engineering field. they often dont get many applicants for the engineering schools (not many doesnt mean like 2 applicants just not as much as they expect) and so a lotta people that dont want to do engineering often apply for the BSE just so its easier to get in. they have the question to prevent those people from applying for BSE and then transferring out later. and yes, it is usually much easier to get into any ivy league by checking and applying for engineering

hmm...i don't know about that reasoning, but I hope it's true!

thats what my interviewer (he was an engineer student at pton) said and many of my friend's parents (2 harvard said this was also true and columbia)

yeah...b/c harvard engineering is especially sad (dont know 'bout columbia, though)

bse in computer science here =)
