Harder to get into: Dartmouth or Williams

just trying to see where the public stands

Dartmouth..

Dartmouth, I guess

Dartmouth. Especially after the ED massacre.

Dartmouth. At DS's school last year there was a 100 SAT point difference between those that got into Dartmouth v. Williams.

It depends. Even tho D3, Williams is big on sports, and ~1/3rd of its entering class are athletes.

I think Williams. Smaller school + more athletes = much less room for non-hooked people.

"Dartmouth. Especially after the ED massacre."

I wouldn't necessarily call it a massacre:
Dartmouth accepted about 25% early, (44% of CC was accepted, with a 2217 average)
Stanford accepted 12% EA (couldn't find exact CC stats but just look at the EA results thread..)
And Yale accepted 13% (23% of CC with a 2308 SAT average)

It was certainly extremely difficult to get into Dartmouth early, but not really a 'massacre.' I think that title belongs to Stanford.

Dartmouth IMO.

Dartmouth.

I would definitely say Dartmouth.

k thanks much appreciated.

on a similar token which school would be considered best for poltics/economics. i know williams has a political economy major...does this give it an edge? i understand these are just your opinions but they are well respected.

thanks. daman11

Stanford definitely runs away with the title, I agree. Dartmouth's was a mini-massacre, though. Some of the Rejected Stats really shocked me!

Both are tough, so its hard to say.
But i'd say Dartmouth.

Dartmouth. All my friends and I got rejected hardcore from there. crazyyyy

I sure hope Dartmouth.

My daughter, who goes to Williams as a frosh, has friends who got rejected from Williams and got accepted by Darthmouth.

These friends had lower SAT scores and GPAs than my daughter, while others were higher. So why did they get rejected by Williams and accepted by Darthmouth? I think that in my daughter’s case it was her musical talent and language skills. At least they were mentioned in the acceptance letter from the Dean of Admissions.

My daughter didn’t feel comfortable with Darthmouth so she didn’t apply. Maybe she might have been rejected there.

Williams might have a lot of athletes, but they are still pickier about admissions standards for them. My son’s friend (who will attend Skidmore to play soccer and was also given tips by Bowdoin and Colby), attended a camp at Williams and his mom was very put off by their rather “superior” attitude. She said they told the kids that they would let them know if they were on “the list” for recruitement the first week of November and then the had a week to decide. I think their sports programs are a bit weaker than Dartmouth’s, so their is not as much leeway for a bit lower gpa’s and scores for the athletes. If you have an athletic hook, I would say Dartmouth is easier.

I also think that last year there was an ED massacre across the board at most competitive colleges. Im betting it wont happen this year due to economy and a smaller class(since by all accounts year of 2009 was the largest)
