I'm currently in my freshman year at a large state school, and have been going back and forth all year about transferring--i was accepted off of Oberlin's wait list in high school, and now definitely regret not going. When I finally realized how much I do want to transfer, it was too close to the fall '12 deadline, and I didn't want to risk a sloppy application.

My question is, is it harder to transfer to oberlin in the spring? (I would apply for Spring '13). Should i wait it out and apply to transfer junior year in the fall?
Any help would be great.

Also, anyone know if prior admission helps transfer chances? Specifically wait list admission?

My recommendation would be to go ahead and submit your transfer application for this fall, as you’ve still got a few days until our application deadline. As long as we receive the parts of the application that you are responsible for (Common App, Oberlin Supplement), it will be okay if your supporting materials (teacher recommendations, transcripts) arrive slightly later.

We only accept a handful of students as spring transfers, so your chances are significantly better as a fall transfer. Additionally, you can transfer a maximum of 56 credit hours to Oberlin, so you’ll want to make sure you’re not exceeding the number of transferable credits from your current institution, if you decide to stay there longer.

Prior admission does not directly impact your chances of admission as a transfer student, although if you were considered admissible before, it is likely that your new application will appear strong for the same reasons as your original application.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the guidance.
