Hardest AP class you took?

Hi! I thought it might be interesting to list the hardest AP classes one has taken thus far! I know it varies from school to school so it’s just for fun! I guess you could also list why if you wanted!

I have only taken AP govt thus far, but I’ll have Euro, Lit, and Psych next year, and I’m predicting Lit will be the hardest, based on what I’ve heard and who is teaching it!
In general at my school, I think AP Physics 2 is said to be the hardest…thankfully I won’t have to experience that though!

In context of my school: Calc BC/Physics C
Hardest I’ve ever taken: APUSH
Hardest in terms of tests: AP Chinese (finals ruined me man)

@michelle426 What is it about APUSH that is so difficult? I’ve only ever heard horror stories lol. Is it just a ton of material with detailed Qs?

For Chinese did you have a listening part?

@JeanJacket123 The specifity of APUSH is what makes it difficult. Although there are several ways to interpret things, you have to word them in a certain way. You get used to it in a while, but in the beginning it might be tough. By the end of the year, I was an expert in DBQs, but still doing poorly in MC (I never failed anything tbh).

Nope. But the vast majority of the final (>80%) was written in pure Chinese characters. I can read very very well, but I remember raising my hand once or twice to ask the teacher what a word said (she allowed us to do this). What made it even harder was the culture section. Imagine memorizing 3000 years of culture. In a room with no natural light. In the middle of the day. That’s what my AP Chinese class was like. When I was studying with my parents (we’re Chinese), my mom looked at my material and said she hadn’t heard of a solid 50% of the culture that was mentioned on it. On the second semester final (after the AP test), she dedicated the last 25 questions ALL to culture. I remember she called out this one guy because he got all 25 of them wrong (it sounds cruel, but it was absolutely hilarious) and let him redo it for half credit. The two AP Chinese finals (first and second semester) are the only finals to EVER drop my grade.

@michelle426 ohh that makes sense! It seems to generally be thought of as one of the harder APs, and now I can see why! Luckily I took honors…

Oh wow! I take French and I can’t imagine remembering even half of the culture! That sounds terrible! At least it’s over with tho! And thank God your teacher let you ask! I hate those teachers that won’t even listen to your question! Argh!
At my school we don’t have AP language classes, I think they just go up to level 5. I guess that’s essentially AP but without the title? I’m not really sure.

Ah the only test I’ve ever failed was an advanced Econ test…it haunts me. However I didn’t just fail…I bombed spectacuarly with a 50%. On a 140pt test. The day before the semester ended. So I got a B! Like I said…it haunts me.

@JeanJacket123 Any class is an AP if your school gives credit for being an AP. Alternate names (although very uncommon) for our language classes are (insert French, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese here) 5 AP. This is because the previous course is usually (language) 4 Honors.

AP Biology BY FAR is/was the most difficult class in the world. Not necessarily for just me, but according to college board, students everywhere, my school, and the teacher. It was INSANE. It was my only AP freshman year so I was able to dedicate all my time on it, but I’m not sure how it works out with even one more AP alongside it. We had to do an entire chapter of notes, nightly, and it took about 5 hours on average because to begin with, the book is over 2000 pages, the text is smaller than an ancient document from like the 1300s’, and… lol I just got goosebumps remembering the experience.

No. A class is only an AP class if the College Board approves it as an AP class. High Schools are free to weight their classes in any manner that they deem fit. Many schools have courses that prepare students to take the AP class but, for whatever reason, the school opted not to submit the course to the CB for approval.

To answer the original question: Physics C: E&M by far was the hardest for me, although APUSH was the most time-consuming.

My school didn’t have very many AP classes. I took Biology, Chemistry, and English Literature. (I self-studied some other exams to get college credit, but I won’t count those.) Chemistry was the hardest.

Hardest: AP Chemistry
Easiest: AP Physics 1

^lol because
Hardest: AP Physics 1
Easiest: AP Lang
Physics ruined me but at least I escaped with a B at the end of the year (and a 2 on the exam…wooo)

Hardest class was probably AP Chem, it was a lot of work and studying.
Hardest AP test I’ve taken is AP Music Theory, I was absolutely murdered by the dictation section (it didn’t help that one of the speakers was broken). AP Physics B comes a close second because my teacher was awful.

Easiest test was AP Chinese. I also find most of the social science/english APs relatively easy.

AP chem was the hardest. AP physics 1 was the easiest ,my physics teacher was really nice, but didnt prepare us well for the test. So I failed the AP test for physics and passed for Chem!

Hardest - AP Chemistry (at least for me), for sure.
Easiest - AP Music Theory. As long as you have some background, the class and the exam are pretty easy!

i find chem easy i finished my honors class with a 100 weighted avg, do you think ap will be much harder?

AP World was hard.

So far hardest for me was AP Bio, especially the new test.

APUSH -Hardest
Human Geography - Easiest

AP Calculus AB -> Hardest (I simply couldn’t comprehend a lot of the materials.)
APUSH -> Easiest (Got a 5 <3)

In order from most to least difficult…

  1. AP Chem - hardest class ever. Got a 97 in honors chem then could hardly keep a B in AP
  2. AP Environmental Science (lol, I know it should be the easiest ever, but my teacher made it ridiculously difficult to get an A in that class)
  3. AP Calc AB/BC (I like math, and found honors adv. precalc 10x harder anyways)
  4. AP Bio - easiest for sure despite heavy material, i think my teacher just taught very well. and thank god for CrashCourse

This will probably totally change next year though, from how hard I hear AP Physics is and how easy I hear AP stat and psych are
