Of all the AP courses, which would you say has the most difficult material to master, comprehend, or memorize. I'm not talking about the difficulty of the exam, but I want to know your opinions on the hardest AP course. And why?

Physics C was the hardest for me since I’d never actually taken a physics or calculus class before…but I managed a 5 on Mech and a 4 on EM, so I guess it’s do-able.

Then there’s APUSH…but I didn’t even take that test 'cause I’m scared of history exams. =p

I’ve taken US History, European History, and Psychology. US History was pretty difficult for me because it was my first AP class and I didn’t but enough time/effort in.

My S would concur on the Physics C (he got two 4s and was grateful for the 4 in mechanics.) Thus far, he’s taken Euro History, Calc BC, Spanish Language, English Language, and US History. As a S next year, he’ll take Macroecon/US Govt, English Lit and Chemistry. (He took college level Linear Algebra this year, and MV Calc for next year.)

I’ve only taken three APs so far, but I would say Chemistry was the hardest. The material wasn’t super easy, and our class moved so quickly because we were pressed for time. You didn’t have time to dwell on a particular topic. You had to learn it quickly, understand it quickly, and apply it quickly. But I got a 5 on the exam!

I thought Chem was pretty tough too; taking it as a sophomore I got a 4. But I self-studied it this year and learned a lot of the topics in more depth and got a 5.

Haven’t taken the test but probably Bio, not because the material is hard but there’s just so much material.

I’ve taken USH, Eng Lang/Comp, and Calc BC(AB first semester, BC second.)

US: extremely easy (5 on exam)
Eng: I’ve always been HORRIBLE at english, so naturally it was a tough class; however, the exam was a piece of cake (4)
BC: HARD. Got an A in the class and 4 on exam, but required a lot of extra study, especially since I had to learn 3 semesters of calculus in 2.

If you’re not a native speaker, any foreign language exam is going to be ridiculously challenging. Latin is an especially hard one just because of the 1,000 lines of poetry you need to know. I mean, people can’t even pass the AP English exam when it’s their native language; imagine how hard it would be to write a synthesis essay in Spanish when you’ve only taken it for five years.

Some people find Computer Science to be a total joke because they’ve been programming since they were six years old, but most people find it to be pretty hard as well.

Physics C tends to be hard because of the E&M stuff, from what I’ve heard.

European History: AHHH the class was so difficult for me! [4]
United States History: Teacher was a joke, so I learned it by myself [5]
Psych: Class was moderately hard, but was super prepared [5]
English Lang: Class was pretty easy, so was teacher even though she was good [5]

AP Chinese (or Japanese) Language and Literature

for a Westerner.

English Language is the hardest course. English has always been my lowest grade, and it involves tons of reading. It may have been a hard class, but it payed off with a 5 for me on the test.

English Lang because my teacher hated me for no reason so I ended up hating the class… and when I hate a class it becomes horrible for me.

WHAP was pretty hard too, but that’s because my teacher made it 10x harder than the actual course should be and I never paid attention.

AP Chem was suppose to be hard. but it was easy. AP World History was easy but I have to take a lot of notes, which was very time-consuming.

Next year, i bet AP English Language and Composition and AP Physics B will be harder for me.

Class: PhysicsC (tests are killers)
Test: USH (a bunch of n00bs in my school take it and get 1or2)

Your question is tough because we haven’t all taken the same tests/each teacher teaches differently/we have our own strengths—but we do reach some common conclusions. Mine are:

AP CHEM:
workload: none. hw was optional.
difficulty: a b***h and a half… perhaps due to above circumstance
test/result: 4, after lots of stress and attempted studying
main point: comprehension/computation skills needed.

AP BIO:
workload: immense. my hand cramped often.
difficulty: depends on how motivated you are and how much work you do/how good your memory is.
test/result: 5, very well-prepared after being whipped into shape by a tough course
main point: good memory needed.

AP SPANISH LANG & AP FRENCH LANG
um. let’s not talk about these… but in all seriousness, the courses were moderately challenging, the test even more so—results: well, we’ll see in a couple days hopefully.

I would have to say Calculus BC. Taylor series and Macluarin series are such a pain to learn (just the concept of series in general). I also had to learn all the BC material myself cause my school didn’t offer the class (only AB) so that probably contributed a lot to why I think it is the hardest AP class.

I took the Calc BC exam before learning about sequences and series in class…and still managed a 5. You’re right, they are a pain, especially when you’re focusing on other APs…
