to get into a top 25 school, do you have to take the hardest course in EVERYTHING at your school? obviously the rigor of your high school transcript is important. I was just wondering if you - for example - took the hardest classes in everything but did not take AP math if this would matter.

I will be in the hardest courses for everything at my school, except I am not on a track to take AP AB/BC calc. The only math courses I would be able to take senior year would be AP Statistics or Math Application/Analysis Adv.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

Why can’t you take AP calc in your senior year?

If the rest of your schedule is rigorous, then one class isn’t going to make or break you

right now, I don’t think I am on the “course pathway” to get into calc. I am taking the 2nd highest math course available next year, which is pre calc advanced. the highest course is algebra III/differential calculus honors.

Pre-calc adv. puts you on a pathway to math app. adv or AP Stat, and algIII to AP AB/BC. However, I may be able to look into taking calc, or take the test to get in at least… hmmmm… thoughts?

If you’re trying to get into top 25 schools, you need a difficult courseload, but that’s not to say that you have to kill yourself with APs. For instance, I took every AP offered at my hs except Physics, yet still got into a top 25. That being said, take everything that you can, but if you miss out on an AP offering, it’s probably not the end of the world if you have strong essays, teacher recs, and ECs.

i have kind of a similar problem
as a junior i can take next year ap calc but because of the ib program i would have to do an ib math, and doubling up would kill any social life i hope to have. Honestly the ib math is a lower level, but i doubt one course will make a difference as long as the rest of your schedule is rigorous
