Hardest courses, good GPA, but bad rank?

If a person takes the hardest courses available and gets a pretty good GPA...but the other ppl who do easy courses have a higher rank, will the universities take this into account?

Does this person’s school rank by unweighted GPA? If so, I’d reckon that the person who takes the hardest courseload has the advantage. Perhaps this response would be more detailed if you gave a specific (albeit hypothetical) example.

So for example.

Person 1: Hardest courses, 3.8 UW GPA, top 30

Person 2: easy courses, 4.0 UW GPA, top 15

Are they going to take into account that Person 1 took the hardest possible courses?

Definitely. I believe that your high school counsellor’s recommendation asks to evaluate a student’s courseload, so those AP’s won’t go unnoticed. Don’t forget however that there are many other pieces in an application, so even if person 2 got into Supper-selective University and person 1 didn’t, it could very well be the EC’s.

Im in a similar situation. I feel my rank has suffered due to the fact that I am passed by students who breeze through honors with A while i go through AP’s with solid A’s and B’s. Also, I went to a highly competitive high school my freshman year (top 10 in the nation), so therefore my GPA has suffered. My GPA at my freshman year school was solid for the school, but now I’m suffering due to this. Will colleges see this and realize it, or should I make sure to include it in additional information. My UW GPA should be a 3.78 but is instead a 3.5. I should also have a 4.24 W but instead have. 4.0.
