Hardest Math question on test ever

<p>Has to be B. Looking at the orientation of the line, slope must be negative, leaving us with just A and B. Since the x coordinate is greater than the y coordinate (and the line is symmetric about the origin), y’-y < x’-x. Thus slope must be less then one as well, leaving us with B.</p>

<p>Ugh, I wish that was the hardest question. The SATs would be much easier. I hate my 670 in Math…</p>

<p>The answer is B. First of all, the slope is negative, so that leaves you with -2 or -.5 </p>

<p>|p| > |r| and the slope of the line is (r-0)/(p-0) = r/p. Since the denominator is larger than the numerator, the slope will be a number less than 1. It’s already obvious from the graph that slope is negative, so we’re looking for a slope between -1 and 0. The only choice that falls in that range is B.</p>

<p>you can find the slope of a line with any two points on the line. the origin is a point on the line. point B only exists to confuse you.</p>

<p>Alternatively, since it doesn’t say it’s not drawn to scale you can just eyeball it and realize that it must be between 0 and -1.</p>

<p>Uhh it’s not that hard compared to others IMO. You know the is has to go farther left or right than it does up or down which means the slope has to be less than -1 which in this case, -.5 is the only choice that fits</p>

<p>The reason why it’s hard is becuase the SAT tests how well you can look at small pictures. It took me a good time to notice that it actually crosses at 0,0. </p>

<p>Only -2 and -1\2 work, but -2 means that |p|< |r|, so only -1\2 works.</p>

<p>This is why I hate the SAT math compared to the ACT. Instead of testing your mathmatical knowledge, it tests how well you can notice small details. If that were an ACT question, it would have specifically said it crossed through the point (0,0).</p>
