I am thinking about my BA personal statement to Ivies and top 10 schools. Well, as far as we all know, we must mention a hardship which strengthened us and bla bla ...

A bit about me...
2 years ago I was diagnosed... well it's called DID Dissociative identity disorder. Yes, there is more then one "me" in "me"... I know how it sounds, however it never affected my studies. I keep 4 GPA/2250 SAT and even participated in some extracurricular activities. So, my question is "Can I mention struggle with others "mes"?" You know, when you have 2 voices in ya head and each of them starts to argue with another, it turns to be one of the strangest events in your life(lol). Yes, you can say that I am mental and crazy... How would admission officer react? I am not going to make anyone cry. They want something strong in my life? I can offer only this and thats all.

The topic you want to raise is amazingly original, can be powerful if you write it from the right way. Don’t think it harms anyway, since it’s never significantly affected your life.

Anyway, is it like that '24 faces of Bill? :)

Hi Manzor!
No, I’m also not an expert myself, but I try my best to give honest opinions. A future candidate, but still, I won’t plagiate anything from anyone.
Heh…how can it be fun? ;)

With your condition, I think you can write a moving essay that ought to get you into any and every ivy league schools. What is more you have a story to tell during the interview, so tell it.

I think it would be a bad idea to write your essay about that mental health issue. Colleges are very wary of admitting students with a history of mental health problems. Colleges know that college is very stressful, and can cause relapses in people with previous mental health problems. The relapses can be fatal.

There have been plenty of other threads on this topic, so also use the search function to find them.

1)Accoring to you, I should have died/commited suicide during SAT, because it IS one of the stressful exams (esp for mentals)… The fact that I handled that, proves that I would be able to cope with intensive schedule at uni.
2) I have nothing else to write about. Yes, I had some usual/clich

I didn’t say you should have died/committed suicide during the SAT due to the stress.

I did tell you accurately the concerns admissions officers may have about admitting you. You also can Google and find articles stating opinions similar to mine. You also can find threads on cc in which knowledgeable adults say the same thing that I said

However, it’s your application, so feel free to do what you want. However, why post if you’re not going to take into account advice different from what you plan to do anyway? That’s just wasting responders’ time.

Manzor, I think that that is a wonderfully original topic. ALso, I think its better to let the schools know that you have this issue/blessing/whatever rather that keep it to yourself. Also, I was wondering how you know that this is the topic of the personal statement for next year. If it is, I think I’ll write about my struggles with food (not quote anorexia, but a way to control things in an otherwise uncontrollable life situation). Best of luck.
