Don't worry, I'll tie this seemingly irrelevent post in to MIT!

Based on some of the blogs, it seems MIT students are, like myself, Harry Potter die hards. Cambridge became "Potterville" upon the release of HP 6! Anyway, just an excuse to relax from the unrelenting stress of college applications. Please post your reviews of the new movie.

I'll start...

I thought the new movie was as charged as the other two were! Filled with many crafty special effects, the new movie effectively brings the mystical world to life. I found it thoroughly immersing and suspenseful, despite having read the series thus far :-). I won't spoil the rest for you. Will continue this review later.

Here are a few things to look out for (don't worry, I'll be vague!)
"the boat"
"the flying horses"
"the dragon"

As the "other two?" I thought the first two movies were alright, nothing special, but I didn't like their interpretation of the wizard world. It was geared to children with the comically exaggerated characters of everyone beside the Hogwarts students.

The third movie was pretty good at the new darker feel but it jumped from scene to scene much too quickly. Taken individually, some scenes were good, but overall, it was just a case of trying to jam too much into too little space, and that didn't work out well at all. Both Lupin and Sirius were bad, in my opinion. In the dementor-on-the-train scene, Lupin opens his eyes, stands up, doesn't move his mouth or display much emotion, and the dementors go away. And in the final scenes in the Shrieking Shack, all Sirius does is scream like a madman, when actually he took the time to explain things to Harry after his initial mania.

I haven't seen the fourth one yet, but I hope it's not as bad as the third.

It's a bit simillar to the third, they do jam a lot into it. But, you have to understand that it really must be difficult for them to compress all those scenes into one 2.5h movie! Then again, what's wrong with an enthralling 4hr movie :-)?

I think the fourth one would be fun for you only if you've read it. Again, as zoogies mentioned about the 3rd one, there is too much detail in book to cram into about 150 minutes...SO MANY things I expected to see are left out!!
Plus, Fleur Delacour should be a lot prettier according to the descriptions in the book! (kidding)

I was kidding! I agree, sometimes the movies fail to present some of the elements we consider vital to the series. That's why reading them is always best!

A movie is fun when you keep talking about it for hours after you're out of the cinema!! I think the 1st two Harry Potter are fun, but the last two aren't really. I guess when the first ones are good, we kinda have expectations for the ones after, then we often get disappointed.

Interestingly, I thought they over lengthened the LOTR movies. Especially the last one. Simple scenes seemed streteched for close to twice their length (like towards the end, for example). But, that's just me. Many liked the "dramatic" effect, I thought it was sort of overdramatized.

I loved the book to death, and I thought the movies were not overly done, the first two LOTR movies were better than the last one, in my opinion. Still, even though a single LOTR movie runs for less thatn four hours, if you consider the three movies as one really long movie...

Then again, "Roots" was also a long movie. From the parts I watched, I thought it was good. It's that guy from Reading Rainbow!

I remember a 9-hour LOTR extravaganza, showing the extended versions of all three or something, at an IMAX theatre maybe a year or more ago...something like that. O_O

I absolutely loved the 4th movie, and I really hated the 3rd. I think it did a much better job of portraying the books than the first two, but what really struck me most importantly was the writing. I think they did a great job adapting such a long book to film. They didn't leave out important details, and the things that were changed really made the movie flow much better than it would have if it had just been a strictly visual representation of the book.

I actually impressed so many intellectuals are fans of Harry Potter ;) Lol kidding folks, sorry.

As for the movies...has anyone noticed that THE KIDS CAN'T ACT TO SAVE THEIR LIVES? Everything is so forced and the characters are overdone. Nothing special in my opinion.

Oh and can somebody please tell me why they took THE ONLY HOT GUY IN THE SERIES out of the movies? C'mon...Oliver Wood? Yowzahs! I was angry to say the least. Why are all guys obsessed and totally hot for Emma Watson? She looks like she's 12! Jeez.

The thing I hate about the fourth movie is Voldemort ~ He's a bit ugly but other than that he was a HORRIBLE actor. He wasn't scary at all....he was just stupid and fragile looking.

"I'm going to kill you now!"

I think thats what he said. that is the funniest/stupidest thing I've ever heard. haha.

Maverach, hahahaha, did Wood even have a part in book 4? If he did, it was tiny. What about the Weasley twins that every other female in the world swoons over? Yes, Emma Watson looks like she's 12. Well, not really anymore, but she once did. Well, she once was 12, but anyway, she does look a lot younger than she actually is. Maybe I won't go watch HP4 in theatres...there's The Chronicles of Narnia too, that looks good.

Intellectuals? :P Don't you mean lifeless geeks?

Michael Moore is directing HP6. x_x I think HP6 is by far the most politically charged of all the books (the scenes between Harry and the new Minister of Magic, who by the way was a complete disappointment, appear ridiculously contrived) and like it about as much as I like the 3rd movie. The plot really stunk. Instead of continuing the rapid downwards spiral into ZOMG DARK AND SCARY, it was SNOG SNOG SNOG SNOG SNOG SNOG....SNOG! I'm not looking forward to Michael Moore directing this, either.

EEEEEEEEEW Weasley twins? Please Zoogs, spare me  Ron had potential he was kind of a cute lil kid but then he turned ugly.
WHAT?! MICHAEL MOORE?! THAT EXTREME LEFT-WING TABLOID JOURNALIST?! How on earth?

Hahaha snog snog snog snog snog lol it's SO true. They were just hurting for romances..."hmm let's see...Ron and Hermione can hook up, Harry and Ginny can get together...WAIT everyone has to be dating someone so let's force Lupin and Tonks together! WHAT A GREAT IDEA!"
