I am currently struggling between Hartt and U of A, both BFA MT. I haven’t yet visited Hartt and I got nothing for a scholarship (I got one for U of A) I just was wondering if anyone has advice or helpful info about either of the schools, but mostly Hartt because I feel like I’m not being told enough from Hartt

Thank You for your help, also if you are going in the freshman class, I would like to know why you picked Hartt… This is such a difficult decision.

Thank You Again!

Tayamazing,

My daughter was also accepted to Hartt this year, but due to the lack of schoarship offers, like you, ended up not considering it. Most of their scholarship money goes to kids they feel that will be the most competitive to get, often boys who dance! And, the school is very expensive! I’m not fond of this policy, but more about the program and school:

The campus is very nice, in a nice residential area outside of Hartford, which is a city working hard to renew itself. The dorms are pleasant and the buildings modern with a few older ones thrown in. My daughter liked the campus very much. The theatre/dance building is in an old car dealership building that has been totally revamped and is absolutely beautiful! It’s a very short walk, shuttle ride from the rest of the campus.

The Hartt program from what we hear and observed, is getting better and better. Apparently, they had a very impressive NYC showcase this year! Classes are taught by a variety of instructors, many working professionals in NYC. The dance teacher is fun and wonderful! The school has a working connection with the Goodspeed Theatre, a top theatre in the U.S., and I believe that all MT students do a residency/internship there. The curriculum is very intensive and thorough. Be sure to read through all the posts on CC pertaining to Hartt. There is a lot of info here.

Hartt does not have a cut program as has been referred to in the past at University of Arizona, and the department is very good about about conversing with correspondents, as according to CC posts, University of Arizona is not (which has a much talked about cut program, or at least, has in the past.)
