Hartt MT academics

Hi! I’m a student who is waiting to hear back from Hartt about the MT program. I was wondering if current students or parents could shed some light on what gen ed. courses are taken/required for students in the MT program and how rigorous they are. Thanks so much!!

My D is an Acting BFA, but I’m sure the requirements are similar for MTs. It’s very much a conservatory program: they only require 8 gen eds, and you typically take 2 per semester, so by the end of sophomore year, you’re done with gen eds. This semester, my D is taking a Literature class and a class on Ancient Greece that I think fulfills the Humanities requirement (it’s a mixture of Greek history, philosophy, art, and theatre). She’s enjoying both of the classes, but they ARE a lot of work (she has a 10-page paper due soon for the Greek class).

So I would say Hartt is great for someone who wants a conservatory-style program with very few gen eds.

My D is an about-to-graduate senior. She had AP’s coming in which lightened her load, so she had to take very few academic requirements, and they were all interesting (she enjoyed them), but not overly rigorous. It is definitely a conservatory style program and the emphasis is on the training.
