So my daughter is potentially interested both in VP and MT. I realize this is an MT forum, but anyone have any opinions on VP at Hartt? Is there any “crossover” or flexibility in training? I’ve heard at some schools there is a “wall” between programs. How is Hartt?

Grateful for any info - she’s a rising senior, so trying to start getting our audition list together!

Here are descriptions of the VP and MT curriculums, including all the classes in each major. The VP major is directed toward Opera and other classical music, the MT degree is very acting-intense, and focused only music theater, no classical emphasis, no keyboard classes, lots of dance.

I wouldn’t say there is a wall between the programs but – both curricula (had to spell check there!) have lots of requirements, so it would be very difficult to find that flexibility. VP is centered in the Music building on campus and MT in the performing arts building, off campus. Once you count in the rehearsal and performance requirements there just isn’t a lot of time left! But both are great degrees.

Thanks Gwen. I really appreciate the information.
