My D has just been accepted into Hartt School MT program, as well as UArts for Acting. When she auditioned at the Unifieds she was really hoping for a musical theater slot. Now though, she is comparing UArts’s great location and strong acting program (with a chance to minor in MT) vs. the Hartt School’s prestigious music department and university. I have already made contact with many of UArts posters, but none in Hartt School. Any suggestions?

Go visit Hartt and talk to as many current students as you can. Try to get appointments to talk with faculty as well.

After FULL exploration of each of her options, have her jot down information gleaned about each (including curriculum) and her pros/cons, special aspects, impressions and put these side by side. See how each school matches her personal list of college selection criteria (which she should have had initially). It should become clearer at that point, as well as some gut intuition. She also should think through that one is for acting and one is for MT and how much that matters to her or not.

Thanks Soozievt, I appreciate your recommendations. It would be ideal to visit the schools personally, but with airline problems and such little time left, I am afraid that won't be possible before May 1st. In addition, according to their website, they seem to be not taking any more requests for "Overnight Host Program" because they are already full for this month. My D is already a freshman in another college, so we are mostly looking for specifics about the theater department at Hartt. Any comments from current students are welcome.
