Also:

I am from Botswana.
My Uncle is a prof @ Harvard

Botsboy111, I dont see how your average is 97% when your highest percentage is 96%!!! Do you go to a private school in Botswana?

I go to school in South Africa (A private school) which calculates one's average based on their score out of 2300 (This is considered weighted). However, because the other schools in the country work on a different, much more lenient, mark scheme, we divide the same score, that we get out out of 2300, out of 2100. This is what is recognised as our aggregate (Unweighted). It also means that you can achieve over 100%, although this rarely happens.

(The "97% (Weighted)" was a miss-type, it should have read "97% (Unweighted)" )

Completely off-topic, Botsboy, I was wondering whether and how people in Botswana are responding to Alexander McCall Smith's books? (I'm talking about the Number One Ladies Detective Agency series, which takes place in Gaborone.) They're quite popular in the U.S. Are they published there? Liked/disliked?

sorry to be nosy botsboy, but whats ur school called? i have a friend down there...

Hanna

Alexander McCall Smith is pretty popular down here too. He frequently goes to book signings in our local book stores! Although he is from scotland, I think that he lived in Botswana for a number of years, hence the inspiration for his books. By chance, I was in a mall where he was autographing copies of his latest book, so I took the opportunity to meet him. He a very nice guy, quite personal and very eloquent.

crimson4me

What province is your friend's school in? (Eg: Gauteng, KZN, Western Cape)

Its in Gauteng, I think. And you?

I go to school in Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN)

Crimson4me,

Did your friend say which school in gauteng?

Excuse me for not knowing much about Botswana, but I was wondering what everyone plans to use as essay topics.
I've a few ideas, but nothing finite just yet. How about everyone else?

she said that its called crawford, i dont know if youve heard of it...

Ya! I've heard of Crawford. There are quite a few of them in South Africa. She must be at the one in Pretoria/Johannesburg! I think that they do a different exam/syllabus to us. BTW, crimson4me, will ur friend be applying to harvard for 2010 as well?

yea Im pretty sure she will be applying...

Lots of good things going for you, Hyper2400. What is your prospective concentration?

Thanks Candlize for boosting my confidence :)! I was sad the other day when I had like 5 kids telling me I did not have a great chance of getting in because another kid at my score scored much higher on March SAT.

My concetration will be hopefully biomedical sciences, biochemistry. I absolutely love experimenting with science, esp. bio and medicine!

well, i'll admit your CR scores are a bit low, but I think you're ECs and grades show you are a dedicated and capable student. Good luck to you! Just remember with Harvard (and any other top school), you always need to consider other schools no matter how great your credentials seem.

I am certainly going to try to improve CR by Oct. if not June; I just got unlucky on Test day (very little sleep due to a killer week of tests at school, due to the lack of sleep my brain shut down half-way through the SAT; I ended up guessing on 7 CR questions in the last section :( ); I try to read an editorial every day (mainly for the pleasure of reading, but an increase in SAT score would be an awesome added benefit). I will apply to 10 or 11 schools including 3 Florida schools, several ivies, and Johns Hopkins. And after all if I do not get into my top choices, I can always apply there for medical or graduate school.

Candlize and everyone else applying this fall: Good luck to you :)
