Harvard 2010 applicants!!!!

Yep!
I think I posted my stats earlier, but I am planning on concentrating in Hispanic Literature. I'm betting on my minority status, more uncommon field of interest, research, ECs that clearly show my interests, ass-load of college credits, and extremely personal essays to push me over the edge in December... but who knows!
My second choice right now is Columbia.

Hooray for international applicants :)

Stats:
Canadian Female
GPA: 94-95% in the IB diploma program in Canada (which is worth something because our system is harder than the US for sure)
PSAT: somewhere around 210 ish (don't remember... IB exams take up to much space in your brain)
SAT I/IIs: haven't taken yet... will take Biology, French, and Math, as well as the New SAT (should be 700+ish in everything, if they are similar to practice tests)
IB Diploma: expected (/praying lol) to graduate with at least a 38-40 out of 45 diploma (or that is my goal anyways), May 05 exams: Math Methods in French and Biology SL, May 06 exams: French A2 SL, European History HL in French, English A1 HL, and Chemistry HL

Recs will be great. Thank you Mr.J!

-attended International Politics class outside the timetable every Monday for 3 hours

-shortlisted for the Grant MacEwan UWC Scholarship

Passions:
-music
-travel
-politics

What I will be doing in uni:
-social sciences/humanities: poli sci, international relations, modern languages (as evident by the lack of science/math competitions which everyone else seems to have)
-taking an exchange to somewhere really cool :)

At this point, I know I'll apply to Harvard. As for getting in - if so, great, I'll have another amazing option. If not - hey, I can get into nearly any program at any Canadian Uni with my grades alone (max cutoff for first round (it lowers afterwards) is 88% ish with the exception of commerce, which I am not going into anyways). I'm seriously considering McGill and Dal, partly because they have the program my boyfriend (of 3.5 years) wants to take, and also because they both look amazing. I think that university is what you make it, so regardless of whether we all get in (to Harvard, McGill, Oxford, x other place, or wherever) or not, we will have amazing opportunities anyways!
Good luck class of '06. We rock ;)

You kids are sick. Please, act your age and try to have a fun time this summer and not worry about college next year. Remember, you're all very talented people, and whether Harvard takes you or not, you will still end up at the very best place for you as an individual. I know the concept of college applications can be very exciting for some, especially when applying to one of the most prestigious in the world, but please try to relax and not worry about the whole process until later. Only 1 in 10 applicants actually get in to harvard, and each one is just as qualified as all of you, so if you apprehensive about the whole thing now, its gonna be one hell of a long
(and very possibly frustrating) experience.

keynes, honey, first of all, we're the same age. second of all, I don't see y ur still in the harvard forum when u got rejected urself. im wondering who's sick here.

I agree... shouldn't you guys be worrying about finals? or APs? or anything OTHER than the college admisisons process? =)

For the record, I began everything around October... April is just insane!

I thought Keynes was still alive on the Harvard waitlist, though he's sent in his deposit too Penn. There is always hope - if only for a fdew more weeks.

raven, its May 10. i.e. april was over 10 days ago

yea i am on the waitlist. Im really really sorry if I scared or offended anyone with my message, Ijust dont want you guys to make the same mistake I did. I was hoping to attend harvard ever since this time last year, and when the was deferred+waitlisted letters came, it was as if 4 years of intense 14 hour workdays felt useless. Well, fortunately I learned how to overcome this feeling, but other people I know haven't. This is why I posted what I posted-not to scare you guys, but instead to let everyone know that regardless of how random the admissions process be, that noones acomplishments can be taken away. Although the odds are what they are, getting into Harvard is not life and death. I just hope everyone here can be proud of what they have done over the last four years rather than feel like it all rests on this one admissions decision.

P.S-Byerly, I was really excited to find out that you knew about my plans next year. You're like my hero on these boards, and I had no clue that you knew who I was. Anyways, thanks for the help you've given all of us around hear, and I just want to let you know that regardless of whether or not I get in, I appreciate all you have done.

Good luck.. and however things turn out, I don't think you - or any applicant - has made a mistake by aiming high. Keep on doing it.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=824593#post824593

-Student Representative to my school's Board of Trustees in sophomore year, now member of Strategic Initiative Committee
-CCS Honor Choir participant - Bass section
-California Golden Boys' State this year, am planning to run for office

My APs are pathetic compared with some of the people on this board, but the reason for that is that my school has all of about 7 AP Courses, and 90% of them are either advanced math courses or advanced science courses. I'm good at math, but I'd need to skip a few levels to benefit from the AP courses, and science isn't my strong point. I'm currently taking all the humanities APs I can take. Also, my school is all of about 225 people (240 if you count the faculty), and my participation in EC's is limited by my one hour commute to school.

I spent last summer at Harvard Summer School taking Introduction to Political Philosophy and Beginning Fiction, in which I earned an A- and a B+, respectively. This summer I am attending the JSA Summer Program at Yale, where I am taking Honors Constitutional Law and Honors Law in Public Speaking, as well as participating in the aforementioned Boys' state program.

"The recruiting program for the Class of 2010 has already begun," said Marlyn McGrath Lewis, director of admissions. More than 70,000 letters will be sent to high school students, and Harvard admissions officers will visit 70 cities this month in conjunction with three other colleges. "Thousands of prospective students and their families have already visited Cambridge over the past few months, attending group information sessions and tours" she said. Attracting the world's best students is now a year-round effort."

It officially starts.

Good luck everyone!
