Stop spamming…

Fromcalwithlove, post something other than asking people to view your chance thread. :)

As you can tell from my username, I will be applying to Harvard too!

I think not having the EA makes admissions more relaxed. Its hard to say how many of your EA applicants are great compared to the final RD numbers.

I for one really wish Harvard had EA. My school only allows 8 applications, so early acceptances are a huge boon—if I got into Harvard EA, wouldn’t have to worry about anywhere else.

Yes, I also wish that Harvard had an early action program.

I was actually thankful that Harvard no longer has such an admission option. Because of that, my basic odds of admission were higher there than at two other notable universities, both of which do have EA-type programs. But it’s not a substantial difference, of course, and perhaps even provides an irrational sense of comfort.

Why would Harvard not having EA increase your chances?

EA candidates nearly uniformly have an increased probability of admission relative to the cumulative acceptance rate at universities that institute the option. For that reason, a notable proportion of the class can be considered occupied by that point, naturally decreasing the RD acceptance rate.

Oh, the RD would be tougher. Thought you’d apply EA though…

Yes, quite significantly.

Using Yale to illustrate, it received 5,261 EA applications and admitted 730 (13.87% acceptance rate)([EA Results](yaleherald.com)). In total, Yale received 25,869 applications and admitted 1,940 (7.5%)(Source: Personal Eli Account). From that, it is possible to subtract the difference and find that Yale received 20,608 RD applicants and admitted 1,210 (5.87%). Comparing the disparity, EA applicants were admitted at nearly two-and-a-half times the rate of RD applicants.

Hi everyone I’m also a “Harvard Hopeful”.

^ Hi. I’m wondering if I should still consider myself a Harvard hopeful lol, I’ve had a very rough past couple of weeks…

Hi ella93! Good to ‘see’ you here. Why not, fledgling?
Anyway, I second mifune. Sorry but, IMHO, EA disadvantages international applicants.

I don’t see how EA disadvantages anyone. (ED, on the other hand…)

But anyone can apply EA, so its seems perfectly fair to me.

Hi Monochrome. :stuck_out_tongue: Ah, it’s just some things that have sort of been building up. I posted a thread about it in the Parent Forum, and the responses were all very helpful and supportive  I can’t wait for summer to come!
