Harvard 2018 Transfer Students Applicants

Hi everyone. I know there are others out there who have applied to Harvard as a transfer. So, I thought I would get this started.

FWIW: last year’s freshman class was “over subscribed” meaning Admissions goofed – they did not count on so many freshman accepting their offer of admission. So, Harvard enrolled about 45 MORE students than they had room for, and then had to find over-flow housing for them. As a direct consequence Harvard didn’t accept any students off the waitlist last year.

What does that mean for transfer applicants this year? Well, due to the larger than normal freshman class, Harvard is going to be short of beds for sophomore and junior transfer applicants. Aside from recruited athletic transfers, I would be quite surprised if Harvard accepted any academic transfers this year. However, best of luck to you and all transfer applicants.

To be fair, I doubt that anyone could have anticipated last year’s yield, so “goofed” is a bit strong and unwarranted. I’m sure that many admissions officers at other universities would be tickled pink to “only” be overenrolled by ~30 students (I’m not going to quibble on gibby’s quantification of 45  )

That said, I totally agree with his second paragraph above.

Thank you @gibby! I wanted to apply to Harvard since I’m applying to other top schools. I do understand the circumstances you mentioned, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s still fun. If I don’t get accepted it’s okay.

By the way, I have read many of @skieurope and $gibby comments on Harvard College forums. That’s so nice of you two to help out so much. I’ve enjoyed your responses a lot.

Oops that was supposed to be @gibby not $gibby. I’ve been doing too much LaTeX math typing.

Hello indirectproofs,
I am also a prospective transfer applicant. :)>-

Have all your documents been checked at your portal? @ indirect

Yes, but I added another Letter of recommendation, and that’s not checked off. Mostly likely, it won’t be because it’s way past the deadline. I thought I would still try though.

Hi all, has anyone received an interview from Harvard?

I haven’t but I’m hoping to hear something by this coming week.

@absolutergeist have you?

I received an email from a Harvard alum last week informing me about the interview, and I’m totally stressed out now. I hope you will be hearing from them soon, too. Let’s hope for the best.

Thank you @absolutergeist. I am happy for you that you got an interview. I know that they don’t normally give intervies for transfers, but I am hoping to get one since my situation is unusual. I’m sure you will do great.

@absolutergeist How did your interview go?

@IndirectProofs Thank you for asking. The alumni was really friendly and warm, and I had a great time. Though he reminded me that he had “no influence over the application process.”

Hi all! Just wanted to let you all know that the admissions officer I interviewed with informed me that there are 12 transfer spots this year, so best of luck!

when do decisions come out

@mdaly99 Thank you for letting us know!

@ilanel last year decisions came out Friday May 12th, so I am assuming May 11th this year.
