Harvard 2020 Subject Test Policy Question: Is it too late?

Okay so I’ve always wanted to apply and if I don’t get in, well then I can frame my rejection letter adjacent to all my awards and commendations. Here is what’s stopping me from applying: my subject tests, up to this point, are way too low. I don’t feel comfortable submitting them. I was taking math/science oriented ones, and it dawned on me that I had been taking the wrong ones, just because everyone else I know was taking those ones. So, I was going to switch to U.S. History and Lit for January, and submit those scores if good enough. Can I submit them after the application deadline of January 1st? They will probably have read my application by the time I receive my scores back, and since they, according to new policy, highly recommend applicants submit subject tests, will they immediately discard my application? Should I specify in my application that I’m taking subject tests in January and then, right when the scores are released, send them to Harvard?

Yes, I accidentally created two threads. Sorry, still getting used to the site, oops.

Take them in January and rush the scores. Put in the additional info section that you’re taking subject tests on the January date. Good luck. Decisions come out march 31 so mid January is early in the process.

@XCjunior2016 Thank you so much, that’s very helpful. However, the January test date is mid-January so does that mean Harvard won’t receive my scores until early to mid February?

Even though Harvard’s last acceptable SAT is the January test, do you guys think they’ll receive it by the time they review our apps?

Harvard accepts the Jan SAT test as long as it arrives in time to be considered. The way to assure that occurs is not rush sending after scores come out. It is instead to identify Harvard as a college In your test registration as one to automatically receive scores upon release. That results in the fastest form of delivery and often the scores are actually sent to Harvard on or up to two days before the date you get them online. Of course, in using that method, you are sending the scores without knowing what they are, but if you actually want to be sure they will get there in time, that is the recommended method.
