@Middleschoolmoom If he got into MIT, thatās not a slot anyone wants me for.
A frustrating part of elite college admissions is kids who are good enough to get into these schools can never predict which ones they will get into. So a kid who wants to go to MIT gets into Harvard and Yale but is SOL for the school he really wants - meanwhile, the guy with a spot at MIT would do anything for his Harvard seat. Itās musical chairs with the top kids.
Then thereās me, who didnāt realize my stats are actually okay and so didnāt think I had a chance anywhere and didnāt apply (I applied to Harvard because I really, really want it and I thought there was a tiny chance.) So I get waitlisted at one and who knows what would have happened at the othersā¦ sigh. This whole admissions process was a disaster.
UMass for this year- at least it wonāt cost anything, and I guess thereās always transferring.
@Anonymoose3 Also, I like the username.
@Anonymoose3 Exactly! Admitted here but would love to have gone to yale, where I was waitlisted.
The irony, getting into the school not our favorite and waitlisted at our favorite school.
@crimsonboy2016 do you mind sharing your geographic area/ethnicity? Assuming that you are a guy
@ReadyForTheWind Well, if you donāt want your spot Iām sure weād all be happy to take itā¦
Good luck with the Yale waitlist!
I have a strong feeling that the calls are over considering they had the entire day to call the rest of those who are not called yesterday
@Wreckdecembersat I estimate a few more in a week or two to make up for the nos, and then thatās it.
Iāve thought it would be great if there were an admissions exchange where people could swap an acceptance they donāt want with someone in the same situation. Colleges would never go for it, but why not? Try to let as many kids go to their first choice as possible
hey sorry to be late but do you think they finished with acceptances of the waitlist because there have been so many? I really hope not!
@Hamotron that sounds reasonable! iām just gonna sit back and wait for my rejection letter now
sighā¦
@Baltimoreguy you are on to something! There has got to be a better way!
My understanding is that they call the wait list in waves. Who they call in the second wave is contingent on who accepts in the first wave. And then, who is called in the third wave is contingent on the second results. Because students often have already āfallen in loveā with a school that has accepted them, it isnāt unreasonable to think that students admitted off the wait list have a lower matriculation rate.
As well, usually Harvard gives about a week or so to decide, so the waves are spaced a week or two apart, and donāt happen all at once. The process could go well into June or July. Combined with āsummer melt,ā students could be accepted through the summer.
that was not me, stats of a friend of mine for the quest bridge program. i was unable to apply for quest bridge because i was not qualified financially but my best friend was.
@Wreckdecembersat You and me both.
@notjoe That makes sense, although Iām trying not to be optimistic.
Do you guys know if they make waitlist cuts? If so, when should we start hearing?
@Hamotron you need to calm down a bit. Of course they make waitlist cuts. Itās called ārejectionā. So far, the best answers to when we might hear from them is next week, at least in mass. For now, just try to stay calm and wait.
