Harvard 2024 Waitlist Thread

Nobody in my school district got in either, and I know quite a few people who applied.

That might be good news for you!!

2 going to Harvard from my school this year

harvard doing the MOST by making us wait longer lol

Does Harvard require a deposit? If not, it makes sense that they have to take longer in order to confirm enrollments.

They don’t have an enrollment deposit. I don’t know how they would go about confirming an enrollment though. I really don’t think they’ll delay due to a confirmation process. If you accept an offer, it is their assumption you have fully committed to the school, as double “depositing/ enrolling” is against the agreement in the common app. There really is no way for a school to confirm whether you only enrolled in one school.

I know of a couple of people near my area turning down Harvard for Stanford. I hope that’s good news but I don’t want to get my hopes up!

@hockey731 Agreed but I think that it becomes more obvious as you go more deep into the process, which is why the waitlist process is over a few months.

I think harvard has it down to an almost exact science. If they know their yield I’m sure they know their yield to date stats as well. Plus what could really be the overall stats of kids waiting until April 30 11:59 to confirm to Harvard ? No my guess is all the schools know very closely what they need and when to start asking. If everyone is down across the board assume Harvard is the same I just don’t think what their down moves the needle enormously

50/100 more this year of WL? I think the real issue is if those kids actually pay the real deposit in July /August That might be where things happen that don’t usually

The FB Group now has 1473 members after the May 1st deadline. I don’t know if this is a good or bad sign considering some admits may not use Facebook, but I was already booted from my Stanford FB group, so safe to assume they’ve been removing those who declined admission. I estimate the incoming class size to be around 1,700

At least in my Yale group chat, about 100-150 of the members are faculty, teachers, or current student ambassadors. I highly doubt the incoming class is 1700. Last year, when cover-19 wasn’t a thing, Harvard took 65 off the waitlist. This year they admitted 30 more for a target of around 1660. Even if Harvard perfectly calculated their yield this year, it is highly improbable they will over enroll this year given the circumstances. A class of 1700 is too large to be housed on the yard. Another thing to note is that Harvard’s closest competitor schools like Princeton are already taking from the waitlist. A class of 1700 would be over enrollment and no waitlist usage which I doubt is the case.

Guys, how were your senior year 1st semester cumulative averages (or GPA) that you sent in? One of my friends got off the Yale waitlist last year, without having sent in a LOCI, and her admissions officer told her that her 1st semester grades that came in played a big part in her acceptance.

Has it been confirmed that Princeton is taking off the waitlist?

@staylor1490 Well with anything on the internet, it is impossible to completely verify, but there have been multiple very credible looking posts on reddit. Reddit user gives specific times they where called at, mentioned it in post regarding selecting a school after being accepted off princeton’s waitlist, etc. The post in which the acceptances where mention seemed far more specific than a bland fake post. If I had to guess, they did start using the waitlist. Also, Princeton admitted 1895 students this years which is around 70 more than last year. Could be good news that they started using the waitlist this early even with the 70 more admitted students.

Actually, Princeton admitted fewer students than last year.

Does anyone know if they called international students before?

When does Harvard traditionally let people know in the first wave?
Based on last years thread I’m seeing mid May ?
Anyone have any info on this ?

Around mid-May, typically around the time they release their yield data. I would guess that the first wave is coming next week.

yeah I agree mid May seems to be historically when Harvard has notified WL.
If people get calls?emails this week I would take that as a good sign.
