Harvard 2024 Waitlist Thread

@compmom…do you understand how waitlists work? lol. Every kid on the Harvard waitlist has already accepted a spot at another school at this point in time - and most of them at extremely top shelf schools which is why they also made it to the Harvard waitlist (unless they were denied at every other school they applied to which would be HIGHLY unlikely and, if so, reflect on extremely bad application strategy on their part…). You’re on this thread so it’s fair to assume your kid has also accepted elsewhere. OF COURSE, the majority will happily accept an offer from Harvard (which is why they accepted the WL offer to start with…) and will relinquish their spot at the other school. I know my son who has committed to Dartmouth will. Not sure why you’re bringing ethics and morality into this. This is exactly how the WL system is intended to work.

you’re too late - don’t bother.

Yikes, harsh words.

Dear Admissions, or Dear Harvard admissions committee,

Hi everyone! I’m new to this thread but on the Harvard waitlist as well! Has anyone actually been offered a spot from the waitlist as of now, or are we all still waiting? Thanks!

@yeehaw789 still waiting… first wave usually mid may and then late may is the second

too late to submit materials?

Yea, past the deadline

@Soccerninja I’m not sure what others on this thread are talking about, but there is no “deadline” for submitting materials. Read the waitlist letter if you don’t believe me. Yes, it’s late, but I’d advise submitting something anyways. At worst, it will have no effect on your application. I hope others on the thread are not discouraging the submission of extra materials because they think it will give them a leg up.

@ajivesquare wow even the waitlist is cutthroat

Submit your LOCI!!! Don’t let anyone petty tell you it’s a bad idea. Not submitting a LOCI would be worse. And please don’t get too worked up over this! Send it and relax. I doubt any real harm has been done. Everyone is just speculating, and no one has any real answers. I wish you luck! Also, address it to Harvard Admissions / Harvard Admissions Committee

Yes I understand how wait lists work.

Dartmouth emailed their students this year saying that their class is full. Is it likely Harvard is in the same situation or are they just waiting before making waitlist movement.

So my friend who is also on the waitlist is very neurotic about the waitlist numbers and he mentioned that the numbers on the class facebook jumped up by about 20 people in the past day and a half. He has been monitoring the numbers since decisions came out, and apparently that 20 person increase came after a few days of the member count dropping. Obviously looking at the facebook is a very inaccurate way to predict, but it seems pretty strange for that number to shoot up 5-6 days after May 1 when everybody would know whether they are going to Harvard or not.

@hockey731 maybe that is just representative of the kids who chose right up to the deadline. I wouldn’t think that they’d only take 20 kids off the waitlist now

I don’t think it’s any sort of indicator other than people who got into Harvard through RD are just deciding to join the facebook group right now. University of Washington fb page has about 30 people join everyday, but it doesn’t mean 30 people are getting out of the waitlist.

I agree, I doubt they pulled off the waitlist right now. And it usually does take a while for people to realize there is a facebook group so lot’s of people are joining late…

Also, there’s no need for toxicity in the waitlist guys. We all made it this far and honestly, that’s a commendable achievement on its own. Besides, it’s not the end of the world if you help someone out if they need information that you may have and they don’t. The overprotective parents on this thread need to see that too- all the waitlisted people have something remarkable that the officers saw on our application and wherever we end up going, we are going to continue to do great things. I hope everyone is staying safe and well during this difficult time. We’re all in this together.

Georgetown has gone to the waitlist, my daughter got the call yesterday. Everything is different this year…I wouldn’t be surprised if kids hear from Harvard sooner than in past years.

Given what Brown said, that they anticipate breaking up the school year into 3 semesters so that they can have fewer students on campus, I would imagine some competitive colleges are looking at admitting few students than usual. Perhaps for that reason, Harvard won’t go to the waitlist.
