Harvard 2024 Waitlist Thread

I know stress levels are high. Hang in there everyone. My kid was offered a slot off the waitlist last year without having a second interview and was in one of the later waves and was notified with a in person phone call. Try not to read too much into anything. Some who were offered secondary interviews were later denied admission just as some who didnt receive one were offered a spot. Good luck to all.

Also keep in mind, Dartmouth isn’t closing their waitlist. They’re keeping it open most likely because they’re expecting a lot of deferrals once June hits. Harvard could be in a similar situation where they’ll be a lot more activity in June than in previous years.

I just uploaded a Waitlist LOC. Do you think they will still get around to it? Or is it too late?

When will they start making decisions? And what are the chances of getting off of the waitlist? I’m sure it’s quite low.

We have a deteriorating economy with both job loss and job insecurity. Things can still change as we go through spring/summer and probably will - in ways we haven’t seen before.

As I told my kid last year “until you are told otherwise by the school, you still have a chance” even as the waves happened.

Historically it’s mid May when people start getting notified

Better sending the LOcI than not sending it, that’s for sure

But fully in agreement that June and even July could get interesting as it’s one thing to send a small deposit to hold a space but entirely different when u have to start writing a real check come end of summer when who knows what’s going on with Covid

I hope everyone is happy with where they have already committed and a Harvard acceptance would just be some extra gravy, always nice to have but not devastating if u don’t have it

Good luck everyone

An update on the guy who got a waitlist interview for Harvard:

“It was pretty much just a secondary interview where there were specific questions about ECs on my application that she asked me about. It was overall pretty relaxed, and I won’t find out the final verdict until July so Go Quakers till then”

So does this mean that likely have filled most of their seats, and they are waiting until fall semester plans are finalized to see if the waitlist will be used? I may be wrong, but it seems like this is similar the Dartmouth waitlist situation. Also, at least last year, the yield was released on the Harvard Gazette on the first Thursday of May, but the Class of 2022’s yield was realized on May 16 two years ago. It might be possible we know the yield soon.

@waveydavey July? They must be saying that just to give themselves breathing room, right? I seriously doubt it would take that long…

Thank you for that! This comment made me feel calmer.

Agreed, honestly guys with everything going on, there is no telling how this process is going to go. We just gotta take a deep breath and just take it one day at a time, while hoping for the best!

I doubt Harvard’s class is full so early. If that were the case, why would they be interviewing students on the waitlist right now? I predict the first wave will come out either Monday or Tuesday

Yeah I agree, Harvard probably just doesn’t want to tell people a specific date during an interview, only to get everyone frantic waiting for a call

Update from the person on Reddit who was interviewed:

“She told me that most decisions will be made by end of June/July so that’s pretty much all that she said, she didn’t say anything about next week so I’m probably not included in that wave lol. She just mentioned how they’re taking people off the waitlist based on spaces they have in their class for certain niches to be filled.”

Seems like admissions is being very vague with their timeline this year. It may been an initial wave will be made next week according to their historical trend. After that, I suspect, they won’t release the waitlist until final decisions are made on the upcoming year, and by that time they’ll have a good idea of deferral rates.

@kodyclaytonedu how did you know that the Yale/MIT classes are full? I got an email from MIT earlier today saying that they’re still asking us to wait a bit longer because they don’t really know anything. Was there another email or…?

My college counselor just asked me if I would like for her to reach out H’s regional AO in order to advocate on my behalf. I know it most likely won’t help, but could it hurt my chances in any way? Is it common for college counselors to do this?

No, it couldn’t hurt.

Yes, it’s common - at least it is for some counselors.

This makes no sense to me. That’s what the wait list is all about, and every school knows it and plans for it.

So y’all!! What are we thinking about timeline? Is it reasonable to expect some movement next week or will we have to wait a while longer?

Well I contacted the admissions office on sending in something and they said it was not too late to send it in, so they’re definitely still looking over applications. Again, I don’t know if they ever say it is too late. So maybe it will be some time before they release decisions.
