Harvard 2024 Waitlist Thread

My sister goes to MIT. My parents attended a meeting and they said they would not be moving off their waitlist at all this year when they were giving an update about the college. They had their highest yield rate in history this year.

well crap

Happy mother’s day everyone

If that’s true, that sucks. But if you look at previous admissions data from MIT, they admit, on average, 500 people from the waiting list each year. I find it extremely unlikely that this year would be that much different. Maybe your parents simply misinterpreted what they said? Additionally, MIT hasn’t yet released their yield data for this year I believe.

MIT admitted 500 people from the waiting list??? - totally incorrect info.
They “offered” around 500 students to be on waitlist - out of which they admitted “0” students last year and “14” students the previous year. not admitting anyone from waitlist at MIT is not unusual - it is usual.

This year it could be different and they may or may-not admit anyone from waitlist (difficult to know this info) - just thought of pointing out correct waitlist numbers from previous years (they are available from common data set)

You’re totally right, I misread the website haha

For what it’s worth my daughter had someone call admissions to advocate on her behalf ( they told them to write a letter and send it thru portal) but the person on the phone said mid may was when they will begin making waitlist decisions

Last year, Harvard released the yield for the class of 2023 on Math 10th. Any idea when it will be released this year?

I’m committed to Duke rn and they’re still accepting commitments from RD students because the VISA office is having a hard time getting that sorted. I can’t speak for Harvard’s visa office but if they’re in a similar state I’d warrant it’s going to be later :(((

** from what international students and reps have said in zoom calls. I’m not international.

https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2016/05/yield-remains-high-for-class-of-2020/

“This year’s high yield means that only about 40 to 50 applicants will be admitted from the waitlist. That number will be determined over the next few weeks as admitted students decide whether to defer admission to pursue other opportunities that often develop during May and June.”

@partis That article was from 4 years ago. “Class of 2020” haha

Oof… anyways, do they historically release yield info before calling people on the waitlist? Is it likely that it may be this week?

Not necessarily. Correct me if I’m wrong, but two years ago, they started calling people around the 14th, but released their yield rate on the 16th.

Any ideas when yield data might be released. Historically its been realized either today, or the end of the first week of May (with the exception of 2023 when yield was released after first waitlist wave).

Anyone got any new info? Hopefully they will release the first wave tomorrow.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up about any day before Friday. Hopefully they’ll release yield data today or tomorrow to tide us over and let us know how much the waitlist will be used

If you’ve been accepted to Harvard wouldn’t you pay the deposit and hope all is well in the fall especially if you can defer? I think most students would hope especially international students who might not be able to get visas. Harvard will be in of those schools that will have to keep its waitlist all summer and might be a bonus to local students close by

they literally never release on a friday. usually the first half of the week. and yield data has been released a day after waitlist calls in previous years.
