literally just praying at this point…
hi was anyone from cali rejected? wondering if it’s by region
I’m from CA – I wasn’t rejected but I know two people who were rejected from CA
I’m from IL received rejection letter via email on 5/22 taking me off waitlist. If any of you have not received that I am assuming you are still in the running. I was hoping I had a chance but glad that they are not leaving me waiting around during these uncertain times. I am at the top of my graduating class, a National Merit Scholar I received a perfect ACT as well as 2 perfect 800s on math 2 and chemistry. I could not have worked harder academically. I think that places like this are looking for some sort of niche that I just did not fit in. It is sad that top institutions do not put more emphasis on academics. I am not a robot just because I got good grades ect but that is how I am viewed.
@east2020 man it’s rough, i know. Thing is, we’re all like that. All of us are NM Scholars, top of class, near-perfect/perfect test scores. And most of us are genuinely dedicated passionated people who do good stuff in the community. There’s no way to distinguish most of us. Honestly, this is what they could be doing instead and get the same type of class make-up:
- 40000 Apply. They pick the top 15000 most academically qualified
- They then pick 10000 who are almost equal in ECs, recs, tests, and academics
- Lottery to pick 1900.
That’s sad, it’s sad that most of us are missing out, but that’s how it is bud. You know, we’ll go places though, we’re not dumb. Just remember what you are and what you can be and fight to get to your dreams.
Did anyone else not get rejected and not receive an email from Harvard?
b
Lol nevermind, it was in my junk mail folder
From CA - still on waitlist.
Anyone have any idea how many people got off the WL during the first wave?
Three students I know well gained entrance to H this year. One is legacy. The other two received well known national awards and or went to a prestige summer program. They did not receive those awards or got into the summer program because of their own hard work, but through families’ help and connections, plus some luck involved . I can name many other superior young men and young ladies who actually deserve to receive the entrance than those three. So please don’t feel sad but move on. The whole process really is not worth you to put so much feeling into it.
Any idea when the next wave is gonna be? And was May 22nd the first wave of acceptances/rejections/still in consideration?
.
Given that people stated that Harvard gave them until May 29, this Friday, to decide whether or not they would like to accept the spot, I believe the next wave will be sometime next week.
With the Covid situation and recent announcement Harvard College may be content with having a lot fewer freshmen at Harvard Yard.

If 1600 admits responded yes to the admission offer and 300 of those take the gap year the College may be happy to see a de-densified Yard for freshman class based on last Friday’s development.
@waitlistgirl123 do you know if H is allowing those taken from WL to take a gap year? Do you know of anyone taken from the WL thus far?
Not to mention that they will need room for juniors who may otherwise have taken a semester abroad.
I think we will see more waitlist movement, however, how much I’m not sure. Did anyone hear anything today? Are they allowing WL admits to take a gap year.
Does anybody know whether students admitted off the waitlist are getting financial aid despite the economic downturn?
Harvard would not end their financial aid policies in this situation.
For people on the waitlist or those who have been rejected, and had perfect stats etc., it might help to remember that admission is not so much about the individual but about assembling an interesting mix for the class as a whole.
