Hi everyone, I wanted to weigh my chances of getting into Harvard regular decision. I'm a rising senior.
GPA: 3.7 last I checked
Rank: 5 out of 349, unweighted.
ACT: 30 Composite, 8 out of 12 on writing
Female, African American, live in Atlanta, Georgia.
Took AP U.S. History, A.P. Biology, and A.P. Physics, taking A.P. Calculus this coming year.
Activities: Chorus,Poetry Club, Library Club, National Honors Society, Beta Club, TAG (Teen Advocacy Group, partner with Planned Parenthood). I was also in Yearbook/Newspaper Club for 2 years but had to get out because of required classes. Also, I plan on joining SGA this coming year.

The fact that you only took three APs and are only taking one more your senior year shows that you are most likely not cut out for Harvard. You would need some ridiculous stats/ECs, which you don’t have, sorry. :/

Have you considered taking the SAT? Your ACT score is pretty solid, but there will be people applying to Harvard with much better stats. Also, you look like you have lots of ECs but it doesn’t seem like you are anything more than a member. The key is quality over quantity, which means being president/an officer of prestigious clubs is better than signing up for lots of random clubs.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much about getting in to Harvard, but you still have a chance at some other pretty good schools, so good luck anyway!

^ well if those are the only aps offered at his school then its fine…

Your ACT of 30 is below Harvard’s middle 50% range of 31-35, so unless you are a star athlete, a super legacy, or have discovered a new branch of physics, your chances are slim to none (sorry). You should take the ACT again and try to boost your score; or try the SAT.

says who? a 30 is still a decent ACT score. if you consider demographics though, she may have a much better shot than people are suggesting

and if you consider the fact that, while her GPA might seem low, her rank is still 5/349, meaning she does very well in the context of her school.

You only need to take the amount of AP’s offered at your school etc.

A 30 ACT can get you in if you right an excellent college essay, one of the most important if not the most important part of your Application.

65,242 kids scored a 31 or better on the ACT
31,457 scored a 30 on the ACT

In 2009, Harvard admitted 2,131 kids. Realistically, anyone’s chances of getting in are slim. With a 30 ACT, you need an excellent essay, good extracurriculars and something extraordinary that will make you stand head and shoulders above the other 96,000 kids who are also applying that have better or equal stats.

Demographics may indeed help the OP, but as with everyone, it’s a long shot.

write a good essay. Try your best hopefully you’ll get in!!!

I think you have a very good shot good luck!!!

btw i know a girl called ayana (lol african name) and i have a lot of friends and cousins called ayaan.
