Harvard Admissions

Greetings, I know this forum community recieves threads like this all the time, (Sigh,"another person inquiring about harvard") but I am exrtremely nervous and find myself incredulously inadequate and below the academic community of Harvard. I know "life is not over" if I didn't get into Harvard, but I was inquiring a basic idea of getting into Harvard; perhaps some resumes of a couple of people who were accepted. I know a couple of the things they look for are student diversity, academic achievements, and strong personality (whatever that means)

Here is a description of myself:

White Race
Middle Class
No family legacy
4.3 Weighted
SAT I- 800 M, 750 R, 800 W
ACT-33 composite, 30 english, math 32
Jazz Band, Ensemble, Concert Band
Art Club, Business Club, SEA Club, Science Honors Society
NO Work
Number one seed on Varsity tennis (record 2 wins, 9 losses), basketball team

Thanks a lot guys.

Again, I just wanted to see if it is even possible for a average guy like me to go there.

What Harvard really looks for is something that stands out. Starting a tutoring service at your school, organizing a charity effort, winning a national award, Intel or Siemens finalist, etc. You have a very good record, but I don't see anything that will set you apart from the thousands of other applicants applying with similar stats.

Do you really consider yourself average (2350 SAT)? Really, tell us. If so, then yer a little outta touch.

^^ That's the problem with CC. All of the workaholic, nerdy geniuses think that they're average or below average. Get real people

To the poster above: I think he meant "average" with respect to the Harvard applicant pool.

To the topic creator: Your SATs are good but so are everybody else's if you're talking about the Harvard applicant pool. You have a lot of ECs but not too many leadership positions. Getting in will probably require stellar essays and recommendations.

There must be some name for the phenomenon when someone posts on CC to criticize the people on CC.

^Lol. I just found that humorous. As everyone said, your stats are amazing, but I don't see anything that sets you apart from others. =] Who knows though, right? I still say you have a good shot.

I wouldn't list your win/loss record haha.

perhaps if you have done something very interesting in your ECs? for example, in one of my ec's that sounds rather plain i started a year-round food retail business that is now four years old

"I wouldn't list your win/loss record haha."
not to be a complete d-bag, but that was what i was gonna say. hahaha :)

I wrote a tennis book that has not been published but that is about it. I guess this were Harvard is not for me when there are others who make their own computer programs, charities, etc. I tried to make a charity but it is ridiculously hard.

I sometimes wonder about kids who start their own charities when there are so many charities that need to be made stronger. Don't worry about having not started a charity of your own or published a book-tell them what you will do with your Harvard education and what you want to do with your life.
