Harvard Application Testing Requirements

I have a couple of questions about the application process for Harvard College.

1) Is it harmful, useless, or beneficial to submit more than two SAT Subject test scores?

2) Is it harmful, useless, or beneficial to submit both the SAT and the ACT scores? Is SAT or ACT really no preference?

3) Is it OK if some parts of the application are submitted online while other parts are submitted through mail (for example, submitting the common app through online means while having the recommendations and transcript mailed)?

4) Should AP scores simply be listed on the Common App or should they also be submitted through the College Board or should they only be submitted after admission is given?

5) Does Harvard not look at class rank when making admissions decisions?

Thank you so much!

If your scores are great (well into the 700s), the more the merrier. I doubt they’ll hurt. I’ve read that Harvard weights the subject tests strongly.

From what I’ve read, Harvard will take either. If you’ve taken both, submit your best score. If you’ve taken one and scored very highly (certainly a 2300 or better on the SAT) don’t bother taking the other.

I don’t know.

Submit through the College Board (at least if you’ve scored 5s). Harvard takes these into account in the admissions process.

Harvard does look at class rank when available (not all high schools provide class rank).

1) Well, depending on your scores obviously, but it can sometimes be helpful to send three, especially if one’s a language. I sent four because I’d taken four. They were all good, and I was not going to be bothered only to choose three of them. (This was back when they required three, I think.)
2) Really truly no preference, just send your better.
3) That’s totally normal.

Does my high school need to simply mail the transcript to Harvard or will my counselor attach a copy of my transcript with the Common App’s school report?

What is the Personal statement? Is it submitted online or by mail?

Are the various forms of arts supplements required for admission, or simply optional and admission can be gained w/o them?

If you want to have any success in the college application process, you need to do some work on your own! All of your questions can be answered by going to the Common Application website and reading various pages:
