<p>I also totally agree with “Open Secret” and serendipity is the perfect word to describe the uncertainty in the admission process. Psychological factors are often not fully appreciated by the applicants and their councilors. One should certainly strive to put together an application that will wake up a tired admission officer and leave an indelible impression.</p>

<p>‘1800’ and ‘less-impressive test score’ are tautologous. If SAT were the whole deal, there’s very little chance of making it with 1800. But, if the individual had fantastic grades and a hook, and was a nationally known concert pianist or the best quarterback prospect in Ohio, the chances aren’t so bad.</p>
