Harvard Chances!

Ethnicity: Indian Male

School: Competitive Bay Area public school

GPA:
Freshman: 4.0 uw
Sophomore: 4.0 uw/ 4.4 w
Junior: 4.0 uw/ w.6 w
Senior(so far): 4.0 uw/ 4.8 w

APs: Fives on Computer Science BC, Calc BC, U.S. History, Biology, and Statistics, and a four on Physics C(which I self-studied). This year I'm taking Chem, Gov/ Economics, Spanish, and English.

Community service: 200+ hours volunteering at local hospital and tutoring

ECs: Varsity Tennis Co-Captain, VP of Robotics, President of Model UN, and membership in NHS and Math Honor Society

Awards(naming most important): AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Scholarship winner, and qualified for USAMO.

Other: Did research on cancerous cells over the summer at UC Davis and am currently working for Cisco Systems

no chance in hell, sorry but math and science whores with perfect stats are in abundant supply, there are another thousand like yourself applying early - although if you marketed yourself in a truly unique way, that would be a different story, but from what i can see, there is no hook, no space harvard would need you to fill

high sat scores dont mean jack to harvard since everyone who applies has those scores.

------^^-----

I hope that's sarcasm... The guy has basically perfect scores across the board, qualified for USAMO, self studied Physics C, and has done cancer research. I think he has a very good chance at Harard.

It's interesting how people try to bash others with great scores, while they try to boost people with poorer scores... As much as we'd like to ignore it, the college admissions process is still very stats oriented.

And I'm sure as much as you guys would like to think it, but not alot of people get a 2380, a 3x800, a 4.0GPA, and qualify for USAMO as well. I think we can assume that his stats are in the upper region, even for Harvard applicants.

dude, you are so blind, i dont know how it is at harvard, but i was at a columbia admissions session, and the dean of admissions says columbia accepted only 13% of all the applicants who had perfect scores...nvision, high stat students are in abundant supply, unique who do something more with their are more interesting....

oh Inidan Desi brother.......

what will you do?

i think ur all overlooking a major factor...

He's Don Corleone...he'll make em an offer they can't refuse

yeah, but im mrsandman, i can bring them a dream, i can give them the cutest that they've ever seen

Bump! Any more replies?

theres like 5000 of you man

nice stats but you need to stress your individuality
try not to sound like all the other harvard applicants
sooo many people have done summer programs and that really doesnt set you apart from the norm.. everyone is in robotics and everyone plays a varsity sport
think outside the box.

don corleone- as long as u show like leadership, uniqueness, etc, u got a helluva shot. although there are perhaps 5000 people with stats like urs, a good essay could really do it. my friend got in two years ago, with a 1500 sat (he was asian too, gasp!!) and a great essay. so, best of luck!!

yikes, people with perfect stats like the don are getting rejected (according to you guys) what are the chances for a person like me? i knew a person who got rejected from the big H (he into got yale though) he was class validictorian, class pres, had a 2180 sat and a bunch of great ecs. i cant even spell validictorian what are my chances?

Umm... there's only about 50 or so seniors in the nation who've qualified for the prestigious USAMO, and Harvard knows this competition well. There are very, very few out there Don_Corleone's combination of huge scores, extraordinary math accomplishments, and perfect grades. I can't say whether he'll get in or not, but your comment is rude and ignorant.

Also notice every rickoid has the same scores + RSI. and not every rickoid gets in.

80% chance of getting in.

National Merit Winner? Aren't those awarded in the spring, or has that changed?

mrsandman (I assume its Mr. Sandman not Mrs. Andman?) - AFAIK HYP take around half of their perfect-score applicants (which admittedly the OP is marginally below the level of) so I REALLY doubt Columbia only takes 13%

actually pyroclastic, mrsandman is right...my sister worked at the columbia financial department...she said less than 20% of the perfect sats were admitted...

And I didn't say that he will get in. But, like rickoids, he has a strong chance (perhaps not as much as a random rickoid, w/e). Posts saying that he is just a clone of thousands of others are very dubious. He is fairly unique. Doesn't meanHarvard will go for it.

And statistics have repeatedly shown that people with perfect scores tend to get in at about a 50% clip at the very best colleges, so I extremely seriously doubt that Columbia somehow manages to reduce that number to under 20%.
