Race and Gender: African American male
Interests: Neuroscience, Psychology

Weaknesses: Not a lot of ECs, hardly any leadership positions, not insanely high stats

Strengths: Strong academic record and test scores, especially for an African-American male interested in the natural sciences, 4.0+ GPA since junior year, great teacher recs (my math teacher said that I was one of the smartest students that he's ever had), very good essays (what my college counselor told me -- I talked about my Ethiopian heritage and tied it in with my experience in Mexico studying Spanish in the Common App), great success at top prep school...

I would say that if you were unhooked, you’d have no chance, but seeing as you’re hooked, it could go either way. Don’t expect an acceptance letter, but I wouldn’t be shocked if you got in.

Yeah, your essay needs to distinguish you from the other applicants, since nothing else does (not being mean, just trying to offer good advice).

In the supplemental essay, I talked about my Ethiopian heritage, the story of my parents, and how both influenced me to be the person that I am today in order to distinguish myself from other applicants. I gave it to my college counselor, teacher, and friends and they all said that it was very good. I thought about it and edited it like crazy…

My fingers are crossed :). Thanks for the advice everyone!

These people don’t know what they’re talking about. I used to go to a top prep school (HADES), and I can tell you that people who fit your profile got into schools of their choosing. The combination of top 10%, African American, solid scores, great recs (purportedly), the internship, and two (hopefully Varsity) sports at top prep is more than enough to push you over the edge at the ivies. Maybe you won’t get into Harvard but I guarantee you’ll be excited come decision time.

Read his chance thread, where he supposedly goes to a public school. Also, he’s allegedly first generation college student whose parents make enough to put him out of the financial aid system…? Unlikely, but possible. Ohh, but he claims to already be a it’d be a National AP Scholar… Hard to do before senior year, but seeimg as he’s only taken 10 AP tests, we know it’s a lie anyway. =P Don’t listen to the ■■■■■, my good sir.
