Harvard Chances

Hi all,

Just out of curiosity, what do you think my chances are for Harvard:

SAT I: 2390, Math: 800, Reading: 800, Writing 790.
SAT II: Math IIC: 800, Literature: 800, US History: 800.
AP: Computer Science AB: 5, Macroeconomics: 5, Microeconomics: 5, English Literature: 5, Calculus AB: 5 (the school wouldn't let me take BC).

All of this was done via independent study. I was extremely ill, and thus, missed all of high school beyond freshman year (total of three years).

I had been in the hospital, as an inpatient for more than two years, which explains the lack of EC's...

EC's:

Commercial Pilot (Single, Multi Engine Land, Instrument Rated. I could fly before I could drive).
PADI Dive Master.
12 months of working at a large NYC hedge fund.
3 months of working at Goldman Sachs.
Founded own company at age 10, sold it when I became ill.
2nd place overall at state science fair.
Founded public speaking club at HS, as a freshman.
Established foundation to benefit others with similar illnesses.

You should consider community college. Your stats and extracurriculars are too weak...and rather pathetic.

I think Harvard will understand. i mean all those 5's show that you are very strong and your EC's freshmen year and before are also strong. I would say you have a pretty good chance. Just make sure you explain your circumstances so they understand .

i agree with predator. i mean, learning to fly before you learned to drive, who doesn't do that these days? all sarcasm aside, you seem like a very interesting applicant and i think you have great chances.

Do a barrel roll!

you're solid SAT-wise, no question about that.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but missing 3 years of high school is a big deal. There is a chance that Harvard my not take you due to the health issue.

That put aside, I think you have a good shot :)

In response to dreamscape, there are home-schooled students who get into Harvard every year who are techincally absent from a traditional school environment until college. It doesn't seem like too different of a situation here, especially when he has proven himself academically

citationjet: commercial pilot? wow. I'm only a private pilot. Could fly before I could drive too :) you have other incredible hooks as well. Just sent you a message bout your aviation training.

Maybe you should write an additional essay explaining your illness if you haven't talked about it already?

@ kovax14: isn't illness different though? i mean, they did ask on the application...

but overstressssed (is that the # of s?) has a point, an extra essay would make things much better

Yes, I agree with you all. I have enlosed an "additional information" essay in all of my outgoing applications. It is approximately three and a half pages and it details my entire situation. I believe that it is well written, and it provides much insight into what happened to me.

Any other thoughts, suggestions?

This profile is blatantly obvious that its a lie...how the hell does a kid work at goldman sachs...

lol, at people taking this seriously...12 months at a hedge fund...goldman sachs..owning company at 10

Do you really need go to college? You can do everything already!

can I please know about the company you founded at the age of 10...???..
