*If it means anything, I am retaking the SATs in December for RD deadline.

i would advice you to do the sat again, i did the sat with a score of 2170, and also applying.

I’m going to try to get at the very least a 2050 total on the next one and break a 1350 on the 1600 scale. I’m also thinking of retaking the SAT II in Bio.

Congrats on a respectable SAT score btw and thank you for the advice.

your SAT is way too low; people with low 2300’s get rejected, so 1950 is nowhere near close

thenerdyjew - Open your eyes and see the OP’s race.

DreamsUnlimited, your sense of race is completely wrong! I went to Harvard and know for a fact that “black” people don’t just get it. There are incredibly smart people out there with at least 3 sports and top ten in the state in one of those sports. As well when I applied, I had more than 1000 hours of volunteer and related work, lead 3 clubs and was the top student in my district for 4 years. In fact, I remember some people of minority races who had more amazing stats than me!

While there is no MAGIC FORMULA, you need at least 2280 on the SAT I and at least 2 SAT IIs over 770 to even have a chance.

Good Luck…

There is no way to predict chances of getting into schools like Harvard very accurately. They look at a variety of factors, and some of the process just depends on who reads your application and at what time. Granted, I do agree with the other posts that the scores are probably too low. Unless you have some compelling story that you have not shared, the chances are probably not great. I do not know how much of a factor being African American is, but last year I did not get in despite having significantly higher scores (2390 SAT/ 36 ACT/ 800 on 3 SAT subject tests) and a longer list of APs, extracurriculars, etc. My class rank was around 4 or 5 at a prep school with well over 1000 students. I had a score of 5 on 5 AP exams (and went on to score 5s on five more exams), president of several clubs, went to Nationals for academic competitions, etc. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t try and apply; I’m just warning you to realistically evaluate your chances and accept that it is unlikely.
