Harvard Class 2025 Waitlist

Thanks also to you for calling and sharing your information. Greatly appreciated by everyone no doubt.

Got a rejection from Yale. They didn’t take anyone from WL. Class size was full

Wow, really didn’t expect that there would be space left over for Harvard. If anything, I thought they’d be overcommitted lol

Did you get off of the waitlist?

Sorry about your rejection from Yale. I saw on Reddit that someone got off the waitlist at Princeton so who knows what the situation is with each different College. It’s a very difficult year. You are clearly a wonderful applicant to be waitlisted in the first place and rejection does not define who you are. The “waiting to hear”period is difficult and hopefully there will be some movement from Harvard next week.

Sorry realised it was your kid who was rejected from Yale? Still wonderful achievement to be short listed for Yale too.

Hey all, I haven’t yet received an email from Yale regarding my waitlist status. I didn’t receive a rejection in yesterday’s wave and my portal is unchanged. Any idea what this could mean? I plan to call admissions Monday.

How do you know that no one was accepted from WL ??

Cannot imagine that no WLers were pulled

This year is unique with COVID-related deferrals, as well as test optional admissions. I would not be surprised at all if Harvard doesn’t pull anyone from the waitlist either, unless a much needed tuba player says no to them or something.

Princeton did NOT accept a full class this year, because of all the people who deferred last year. They usually accept about 450 more (1950). but this year they accepted only 1498, because they knew they’d have all those who deferred last year. So one could expect that they would go to the wait list. Harvard, on the other hand, accepted it’s usual number, plus it has the 350 who deferred from last year.

Harvard promised to accept the usual number this year, despite the extra 350 from class of 2024 who are joining class of 2025, and they did. They’re over-enrolled for the freshman class by at least 20%. They did not promise to go to the wait list, and I just don’t see how they could. They don’t have the freshman dorm space, nor do they have the seats in freshman classes, to accommodate those they’ve already committed to take. The only way I could see them going to the wait list, aside from specific, extraordinary needs, is if their yield were to somehow drop from its usual 85% to below 65% for this year - and I just don’t think that has happened. I haven’t seen any reports of yield for this year, but I really doubt that it would drop like that.

Yes, Harvard and Yale were similar in that they accepted the same # from this year’s admission cycle, while Princeton did not.

Great point
although they IMO need to do the right THANG and accept some from WL

Going forward, people will remember (should remember), and not accept their WLs

The Waitlist at these schools is never highly utilized, but some small # may get in. It is a backup for the school if needed, nothing more. This year was more unpredictable with the # of applications, yield, and COVID, so of course they were going to place people on the WL just in case. Applicants who accept the WL don’t give anything up, so I’m not sure I understand your point. Why wouldn’t you accept the WL if you were still interested? You shouldn’t expect anything and should make plans for the schools to which you were accepted, but other than writing a LOCI, it doesn’t require any other effort.

@NYC4
Thanks for the reply (replies) !! I totally understand that 2020/2021 have been super unusual and unpredictable for the universities, but also for the students and their parents.

My point is that young people accept the WL, and have hopes that maybe they themselves (or others) get selected from it

I just don’t understand why so many (1,030 for Yale WL, unsure how many for H), and potentially no one accepted off it.

I agree, it’s a personal option to select to stay on the WL or not, and also a glimmer of “hope”. Have to be in it to win (a seat) it !

On CC and Reddit, It seems like some have received rejection emails yesterday, and others still haven’t received an correspondence.

Should I submit my LOCI within the next few hours? I wrote one previously but realized it’s not what should be in a LOCI, so I rewrote it. Neither of them have been sent.
Also, should I submit it to the waitlist update portal AND the counselor of my county/region, or one or the other? Thanks guys

Send your LOCI ASAP: like today. And upload it to your portal: we don’t know the contact info of Harvard admission counselors cause they keep it secret.

send it ASAP like within the next few hours. Apparently they are meant to contact waitlist students early this week, so could even be today.

Should the LOCI be more update-oriented or like an essay? Mine was more update oriented but I really have no idea what the right way is

I spoke with an admissions office representative today and she told me they are still deliberating as to whether they will let students off the waitlist. I don’t think that its wise to go into it with the mindset that they will definitely let more people in. If anyone happens to get a call though, please let us know!
