^^^good. Keep calm and carry on!
@ preppedparent
what did she choose over Harvard?
@ATXDAD15 preppedparent’s daughter didn’t choose any college over Harvard – that would require her to be admitted, which she wasn’t. I believe she chose Pomona, but please correct me if I’m wrong @preppedparent
Do other ivies do likely letters too?
Yeah all ivies do likely letters @svk12345
I don’t think Princeton sends likely letters to non-athletic recruits.
@Multiverse7 You’re right Princeton only sends them to athletes.
@ATXDAD15 I said she was put on Harvard’s waitlist and decided not to pursue it as she could have because she was in love with another college–yes Pomona.
How strongly does Harvard recommend 4 years of foreign languages? I took three years of foreign languages and I didn’t know that Harvard recommends 4 years of foreign language before senior year (this year). So this year, I took a lot of math and science courses but no foreign language. I passed the state proficiency test in that language last year with a 99, but I understand that’s not the same thing as 4 years. I understand that I didn’t do enough research beforehand and that I’m completely at fault. How screwed am I?
@Anonymous261 I honestly doubt they’ll care much. I’m pretty sure my friend who attends only took 3 years.
There are no hard and fast requirements. Harvard says, " there is no single academic path we expect all students to follow…An ideal four-year preparatory program includes… four years of one foreign language, etc". So no, it is not a requirement. As long as you were using your time productively, you are fine.
Would it be a good idea for me to send updates as an RD applicant? I got a cool job and I want to let them know about it because I think it is relevant to my application.
@CuriousBobby Yes, send them an update through the portal.
Kind of a late question but just calculating my chances here. Everything else aside, how bad does an ACT of 33 look?
@Anonymous261 that’s the average for Harvard. They’ll know you’re academically capable when they see that score, so they’ll move on to look at what else you have to offer.
It’s purely a numbers game. 40k applicants @ 2k slots and 12% athletes / 8% walk-on who may/may not be supported through app process.
Majority if not all have the same academic stats and ECs, so it’s what makes you stand out that matters. Good luck to everyone.
@fbsdreams absolutely true! Love your optimism
@fbsdreams what do you mean by the 8% walk-on? Will those walk-on applicants for their respective sports have an edge in admissions even without support?
Walk-on athletes which may or may not have a slot through admissions. There is some overlap as some will and some will not, but will impact the % of athletic acceptances.
Just a point of clarification so as not to stress out the applicants anymore than they already are: 8% of freshman plan to try to walk on, but ~ half of those soon quit.
