@swaggyK just stop.
@swaggyK Why bother applying to Harvard with only a 4.5? Everybody knows you need at least a 4.8 smh

I don’t understand how an acceptance rate can be so low? That’s around 3 out of every 100 applications they are picking out of an obviously qualified pool. It’s almost like winning the lottery.
I always wonder what it’s like. I want to see what comments they leave on the application, what the commitee is thinking when they vote, the amount of chance involved.
It is like winning the lottery. That’s why everyone needs to adjust their expectations. Most people that will be rejected could probably handle Harvard just fine and have the stats…there just are not enough spots. It truly isn’t personal!!!
This is why so many top students have such long lists…more chances to win the lottery!!
i always want to know what admissions officers think when they read my application
^“what has this kid been doing for 4 years” - for my application
That is what FERPA is for! Let’s hope we all attend an Ivy so we know what they said about us.
Late March is acceptance day. When is that exactly? I kinda want this burden off my chest
@BrothermanZ March 30th @ 5pm EST
It’s weird that Harvard has like no supplements too. They make these decisions based on so little really. One essay (two but one is optional and probably varies wildly in content between students), ten activities, 2-3 letters of rec, some test scores, and grades now throw away 97% of these equally perfect applications.
@BrothermanZ Ivy Day = March 30
TBH when it comes to the acceptance at such high level colleges or programs, it’s all about making “an offer they cannot refuse”(The Godfather). I take this whole experience as a lesson that I need to be more active in my pursuits and try to be the best at what I do. Make it so that they want you and will find a spot for you instead of you hoping they’ll chose you.
Supply and demand. The number of new freshman is fixed at ~1660; it’s not like Yale where they are building new dorms to accommodate more students.
@skieurope I don’t think @JuicyMango is asking WHY it’s so low (more aplicants than spaces) but HOW. As in how do they pick so few extremely similar apps? How do they not increase the class size at this point? How is this any different than a lottery.
@LindsayHarvard Yeah, the great question that will never get answered.
Haha I’m sure Harvard has enough money to buy some more land to build dorms on… the question is: do they want to increase their acceptance rate?
Keeping the undergraduate population small is important to have one on one learning and having a better college experience. In my opinion, small ( around 5,000 or 6,000) undergraduate enrollment is part of what makes Harvard and other universities like Princeton great.
I would disagree it has anything to do with their acceptance rate @ap012199. Rather, they want to use the money they have on their current undergrads, if there were to be more undergrads it would not be the same attention.
@oplurobha makes sense. I do love small classes!
While they could, it’s obviously not a priority for them; they are happy with the class sizes as they are. Additionally, if they ever did build new dorms, they’s likely be in Allston which students would complain about. As it is, they complain if they are forced to live in the quad. It’s amazing how quickly Harvard students forget how lucky they are to have been admitted and then quickly complain about the little things.
Guys has any of u not taken AP classes
