Full IB diploma candidate, top 5% of class, 4.0+ GPA, strong recs and extracurricular, but ACT of 28. I hope they do holistic views on application !
@fedfan1998 - I don’t know, but reading some other forums / threads - looks like asking for FA missing documents is unrelated to the admissions cycle. Though I would think they would not waste time processing FA for not-accepted applicants, people have reported rejections in the previous years after being asked for FA documents. YMMV.
@class2021 - good luck to you. Have you applied SCEA to H?
FYI - a lot of applicants to H have very similar stats to the ones you posted on #784.
How much does legacy factor in though? Because I think I have a chance but alot of kids in my school have really strong legacy and I don’t
@Clareesi - legacy apparently does have some extra weight. I remember reading somewhere that the Dean of Admissions reads all the legacy apps. At this time, all you can do is wait for the 13th!
Thank you @MedSciBud ! Yes I applied SCEA. And really? That makes me feel better because I am worried that my ACT score is not as competitive but the rest of application is.
@Scholar526 Harvard application portal only updates information that’s necessary. They have most likely received your additional test score but they will not update your portal. And yes it will go into consideration. Remember test scores are not the be all end all. But if you have improved that will be considered
@classof2021 - sorry to have miscommunicated. I should have said all your stats except for the ACT. You should check Harvard’s CDS for their ACT levels. I believe the mid-50% is 32-35.
@MedSciBud it’s okay. Do you think that the ACT is like the most important component to the application? Will they realize that my ACT is inconsistent with my grades(which are very high) and take that into account?

@classof2021 - that is from the horse’s mouth
@class2021 Personally I think extracurriculars matter the most but test scores and GPA are kind of like a bar that you have to pass before the rest of your application is considered – unless you’ve done something really outstanding like national awards or soemthing
It’s not the most important but it’s a red flag. For instance, my kid’s HS had a 1334 SAT/28 ACT average! And it only has a handful of admits to very selective schools each year.
Unless your “hidden” fact is uber-amazing (cf my post #776), you simply have to expect rejection, I’m afraid. A 28 is VERY low for the Harvard pool.
@MedSciBud Yeah thanks! That’s what I figured but I’m still so anxious lol. I’ve been dreaming that I got in only to wake up and see it was just a dream lol. I really should just focus on writing my other apps haha
@MedSciBud thank you so much for showing me that! And thank you @Clareesi and @T26E4 for your inputs:). My GPA is very high but my standardized score is low.
@classof2021 - like @T26E4 said - please prepare the apps for your backups. And if possible, get your ACT up. This might be a sticking point for you on almost all college apps. For most RD apps - you have time until Feb ACT, I think.
@MedSciBud Okay thank you for your advice !
@class2021 this is not for you, but for everybody applying to a competitive school. Expect a rejection or a deferral. I think this mindset would make a deferral/rejection much more tolerable and an acceptance much sweeter.
I had a dream I got deferred, but then my magic 8 ball told me I was definitely in Harvard! What should I believe?
@pineapple86 take a chill pill.
@pineapple86 - I would wait till Dec 13th and believe whatever the portal says! LOL
