LOL I’m not sure too many of us are in the loop with high school admission committees.
@sungirl how do you know you are deferred?
How do Harvard post the results? Do they email or we need to check our portal?
@rsmith0208 Portal, I believe.
High school admission committees???
does anyone know how important the interviews are? i feel like mine went okay, but not great. I’m really shy at first and i feel like i didn’t do anything to make me stand out and the interview only lasted about 35 minutes. i think my teachers wrote me really good recs and i have good test scores/grades so I’m hoping the interview doesn’t have that much weight
@2021applicant from what I’ve heard people saying, they generally don’t matter much. they are one part of a whole application, so i wouldn’t stress too much about it. for some it does end up being the critical point (i.e. when deciding between 2 more-or-less identical applicants), but otherwise - no.
@sungirl It sounds like Harvard really wants you if they are willing to do what they said, but they feel you would benefit from a year at a prep school. Is that doable for you?
Perhaps you should see what other schools have to say. If another Ivy/top school wants you next fall, I’m don’t think I’d go to a prep school for a year just to get into Harvard. But that’s a personal decision that should be a combination of financial and personal factors. Best of luck!
@2021applicant - I am sure you can read a lot about the importance (or lack thereof) of interviews all through this thread and several others on CC. Like @yuvanni said - interviews apparently carry little to no weight.
Btw, when was your interview - curious because it is so close to decision date now.
@pineapple86 thanks for the advise!
Can counselors tell us tomorrow if we got in? I am so curious. I can’t wait any longer!
@sungirl - when did the AO call to let you know this? Like @pineapple86 said - it does look like they like your profile, but would like for you to have some US prep education before they can commit. More details from you, including your stats / situation / call with AO etc will be appreciated.
@nillupa - from what I have read here, it seems unlikely that GCs will know about decisions, but if you have a good relationship with your GC - no harm asking. Let us know tomorrow what your GC says.
Wait, why would guidance counselors be notified about the university’s decision?
@DoctorMD - it does not look like GCs will be notified, but no harm in asking, right?
@kandykoloredbaby @kurtgu9903
Yep, that was where I got the info. Actually I don’t think I know more than a handful of people who actually applied to Harvard. For some reason Taiwanese people tend to see Harvard et al. as super reaches-schools they wouldn’t even bother applying to. Most of those who choose to apply to US universities prefer UMich, Berkeley, UCLA, the other UC’s, and some give the Ivies and Stanford a try.
I’m speaking about kids from the normal education system though. The one that deals with the local college exams and such. I left the international school system in 2009/2010 and has been on the same track as traditional students ever since. Took every exam they took, went to all the star schools and am currently unsatisfied with NTU (which supposedly is as good as higher ed gets in Taiwan).
@eridan1
One. That’s all the students my country sends to Harvard College every four years. One. (
@jamieevren1210 You are in Taiwan? Damn. Taiwan’s got more than twice the population of my country. Seems akin to how Canada sends 3x as many students as the People’s Republic of China. Pretty crazy.
@yerin2021 @MinSuga holy! Another KPOP fan here - I’m a VIP though haha but I do like some BTS songs
@MedSciBud my interview was in early november, but i’m new to CC and just thought i’d ask. i’ve been more anxious about it recently with decisions coming out soon and this eased my nerves
@2021applicant Don’t worry interviews matter very little because alumni evaluations are non-standard and not everyone gets them anyways
