Just got accepted to the Class of 2022!!! This is what the status update (a letter) in my portal stated:
"I am writing with a proposal that I hope you will consider very seriously, but I must first report that it will not be possible for us to offer you admission for this coming August. A high percentage of students have accepted our offer of admission and the freshman class is now full.
However, the admissions committee has voted to offer you and a few other very strong candidates admission to the Class of 2022 which will enter in August 2018. We hope you will accept this offer."
@Harvardgirl21 CONGRATS! Which region do you live in? And when was the letter published on your portal?

Well if the admissions committee are offering a few strong candidates the 2022 spots then there is still a glimmer of hope IF you’d take a gap year. Tough call though.

@littlecrim No, I am not legacy. I’m white, upper income, from CA. And yes, I received an email notification that a status update had been posted in my portal.
I got off the waitlist for '22! Unfortunately, I really have no desire to do a gap year, and Harvard already wasn’t my dream school, so I think I’ll head to Duke free of restraints or second thoughts. I’m in some ways glad they didn’t offer me a spot for this year, because that would have been a much tougher decision!
Also, I’m a normal applicant (not a legacy or donor or anything), and it’s my understanding they didn’t take anyone for the class of '21 off the waitlist.
@howtobe why did you start a thread back on April 8 saying you were admitted to UPenn and Harvard? You stated today that you got off the wait list at Harvard and admitted for class of 2022. Something doesn’t add up???

@doorrealthe I didn’t get a status update in the portal either 
it says last update was the March 30th waitlist letter
@Yuchentu @catulus I guess they aren’t coming out by region since we had someone from California and the Northeast say that they got their portal updated
