The people on reddit think that no interview = definite rejection. Tell me they are wrong.
Harvard says âif an interview cannot be arranged, you will not be at a disadvantage.â
That said, the number of alumni volunteers has NOT increased to meet the demand of students applying to the college. So â and this is just a guess based upon whatâs happening over at Yale â Admissions quickly reviews an applicants credentials (GPA & test scores) and lumps applicants into two piles: High Priority and Low Priority. Students identified as high priority are given an interview, and if time and resources permits, then low priority candidates are interviewed. IMHO, if you are a US resident and live close to an urban area, but have not been interviewed, you should NOT expect a positive outcome tomorrow.
Oddly it likely means something. D18 has been interviewed by every school that does interviews except for Harvard.
? So maybe Harvard does Stealthy Surveillance instead of interviews for all and they watched D18 on point in Mock Trial headed to states and soon maybe Nationals. ?
Ok that DreamState has passed and Im thinking ? no interview is more on the order of a full court flat out pre-emptive rejection.
Too bad itâs her favorite Ivy CampusâŠ
Likely Sad ? but True
As a postmortem if anyone not interviewed and is otherwise accepted can post as to why ( hooks etc⊠) they think they were accepted minus an interviewâŠ
Non interview acceptances are pretty common in the States, since it doesnt matter there. THe only blur appears when weâre talking about limited interviewer zones. They say that thereâs prescreening there, but people are for an against the possibility of it.
What??? Source please???
FWIW: From anecdotal evidence, non-interview acceptances are MORE common with international students. However, NOT so much with US residents. And please be mindful in your opinions (which you have not done in the past) that Harvard tends to march to their own drummer, meaning whatever youâve gleaned from another US college does not necessarily apply to Harvard.
@skieurope any thoughts?
I hope @gibby information is correct, because i am an international student who got an interview extremely fast (almost 3 days after i submitted my app), but with that RD 2.9% acceptance rate cant hope for too much : (
@gibby , how do you know about the low and high priority list?
@vc_scrubjay i think he is making a hypothesis about admissions based on the Yale interviews (donât know much about that).
@vc_scrubjay: About three years ago, a Yale alumni interviewer, who is no longer on CC, posted as such. In addition, in the last year another Yale interviewer sent me the below
So does this mean anything for me based on the speed of my interview? Sorry, just so nervous for ivy day tomorrow.
@iiRoMii: IMHO, it doesnât mean anything that you were granted an interview quickly â other than to surmise you were placed on a high priority list. Given the numbers, I would imagine many students are placed on the âhigh priorityâ list â many more so than can be accepted â so you shouldnât read anything into it.
@gibby you contacted a Yale interviewer about it and they told you about the priority list?
@iiRoMii Did you get the Harvard or Yale interview 3 days after submitting your app?
I think Gibby might be right about what Yale is doing. Iâm a US resident and was offered an interview at all Ivies I applied to except for Yale, so Iâm not expecting anything
Are you less likely to get an interview if you submitted your app a few hours late @gibby @skieurope?
Just wanted to say that I hope and pray that everyone gets into a great college and is satisfied with their choice in the end! We all worked very hard and we will end up somewhere great. Have a positive outlook and donât forget to breathe! All positive vibes. Live in the moment; itâll all be over in less than 24 hours. ?
@PianoWinterfell Yes, i submitted my application on Jan 1, and got an email by Jan 4 setting up my interview.
No. The Yale alumni interviewer contacted me, as we were both active and often tag-teaming posts on the Yale forum. His or her actual comments from May 2014 were
If I were to read tea leaves based on what you say on the eventuality of a non-interview and what others here have described in combination with my daughters descriptions of all her interviews and her one non-interview ( Harvard ) I would State emphatically that Harvard is an absolute negative for D18.
The other interviews were mostly out of some proper courtesy except for maybe Yale and Georgetown which likely gives her a 3% chance of acceptance at either.
Fortunately D18 is a realist and she gets that itâs a Holistic Numbers game. Even if the playing field isnât level.
There is humor in all things peeps and remember itâs not about just getting in its all about graduating.
