^^ Yes. No. Maybe. Harvard doesn’t published the exact number of students Z-listed each year, so 34 could be a good guess. But it could also be 24 or 20 or 44 or 55!
Didn’t they use the phrase “small number” last year too when describing the number of offers they expected to make from the waitlist? And how many WL admissions were there for class of 2022?
63 for last year, possibly including z list kids. I don’t think they said small number I think they threw out a figure like “40-50” or something like that
Harvard Gazette, May 16, 2018: “Over the next few weeks, a small number of students will be admitted from the waiting list. The final statistics for the matriculants of the Class of 2022 will be determined after students arrive for orientation on Aug. 27.”
So if they used the “small number” phrase last year too, what makes the number of students taken off the waitlist lower this year? They admitted about 13 less students by the sound of it this year and had a 1 percent higher yield. Shouldn’t the numbers be about the same?
Do you guys know if historically Harvard tends to accept computer science majors off the WL (perhaps more than other majors)? I would think that some kids who get into MIT/Stanford may turn Harvard down for CS, opening up some spots.
what time do they usually call people getting off the waitlist?
^^ Admissions understands that students are in school M-F, 8am to 3:30pm so they usually call after 4pm on week days.
Did anyone got off the waitlist?
Hello!
what do you think about sending an additional recommendation letter? I believe it will convey a new perspective of who I am. Anyone have any ideas? I heard before that it may not help and that’s understandable of course, but would it hurt in any way? Also, how could the recommender send it to Harvard?
@Gamdyy It can’t hurt. Your recommender can send it over fax.
@Gamdyy Ehh I would refrain from sending new material that changes their perspective of you. You got waitlisted because they had a strong image of you that they liked. A recommended saying different things about you that they hadn’t sensed before might confuse that strong image they had earlier.
If I said that I would matriculate into the class of 2023 if accepted, would that make them less likely to Z-list me?
No. Harvard assumes that you will matriculate if accepted. How they choose who to put on the z-list is one of the mysteries of life, but if you’re not legacy, z-list probably won’t happen.
Sorry, I’m relatively new here. What time frame are waitlist calls usually going out (ex. Saturdays, Sundays, weekdays)?
^^ See post 127.
five bucks say they will start calling tomorrow
Hopefully
Yea feel like they waitlisted a lot this year though so not super optimistic. Also out of curiosity where is everyone committed?
