Harvard Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

Actually, they do. Whenever I try to apply to other programs under RED, my application wouldn’t process until I change the cycle. They write in red: “you use RED for only one school” Something like that…

Applying to multiple Single choice Early Action/Restrictive Early Action/Early Decision schools happens more than you think. People just don’t talk about it. Unfortunately people will bend the rules to get what they want.

What skieurope said.

No.

Hey!! What url and source code are you all talking about? I’m just wondering as I haven’t received anything from them yet

parentologist:

I’m just curious how you are so certain that these “soft” qualities can’t be evaluated for through interviews and other criteria.

Are you a Harvard alum? Have you been interviewing applicants for 20 years like I have? Do you have experience in this area… evaluating people?

The reason I ask is because my personal experience says these “soft” qualities CAN be evaluated accurately, at least a large part of the time. It is fairly easy for me to tell, at this point, who is not sincere, who is arrogant, who is self-centered, who has been coached and who hasn’t. And that is just in one hour.

It’s not that hard.

Teachers and advisors have many more years with students. They often submit more honest evaluations than you know.

Also, just because a sociopath fools people sometimes doesn’t mean the entire exercise is pointless. That’s not a good argument.

Also:

You said “soft criteria” “are easily twisted in order to achieve the racial/ethnic/socioeconomic goals of the committee.”

You write this like it’s somehow wrong and a bad thing to admit a class diverse in ethnic and socioeconomic ways.

This doesn’t even make sense with your previous argument: That because Harvard accepts some public funding, especially for research, that it therefore should “serve the interests of the public.”

(I don’t think it necessarily should, by the way. It’s a private university. It’s not like SUNY or the Cal State system, where operating budgets come from taxes. Harvard has a private endowment of $42 billion. Harvard has the largest private endowment in the world.)

“The public” is 12.4% African American. “The public” has an median income of $68,000. Wouldn’t serving the public mean offering an opportunity to everyone equally— poor people and rich people and black people and white people and rural people and urban people and scientists and poets… blah blah blah…?

Your logic doesn’t make sense to me.

(By the way, the Supreme Court has ruled that using race as ONE OF MANY criteria in admissions is legal.)

Harvard’s Making Caring Common admissions framework describes how character, or specific soft traits, can be more objectively evaluated and how those character traits can translate to success in a rigorous program.

I actually read that only around 30 applicants a year get a one rating in personality… it’s extremely rare to come by and is instead a measure of personal difficulties overcome, teacher evaluations, alumni interviews, and essays. The one video I watched about somebody reviewing their Harvard application was actually an Asian woman… I don’t think it’s as toxic as some people make it out to be considering that most people get 2’s and 3’s…

Fitzsimmons is on WBZ 1030 Radio right now (Boston). He stated REA decisions will come out Thursday.

So is that official? I heard that they’re likely to send out an email a couple of days before they release the decisions. I guess we won’t know for sure until they do, huh?

The Dean of Admissions stated publicly that they are coming out Thursday at 7pm, so I would call that official. I would guess a tweet and/or an email is coming soon.

The Q&A is still going on. You can google the radio station and listen through your laptop/phone.

What would I have to google?

WBZ NewsRadio 1030. The Q&A is live right now - and someone from Reddit just asked a question, and Fitzsimmons just said he was very aware of both Reddit and College Confidential. The Dean of Admissions of Boston College is also part of the Q&A.

There are commercials every other second, so sometimes it seems like the segment is over, but it is still going on. This segment lasts until 10pm.
