Awesome!
will a B- in BC Calc take me out of the running? I’ll have an aggregate uw gpa of 3.85. Everything else is good. im unhooked btw
There’s been talk on ZeeMee about an increasing number of Ivy interviewers asking for test scores and grades in interviews and on pre-interview questionnaires. This hasn’t happened to me yet, but I’ve only had 4 interviews.
- Can they do this?
- If you apply Test Optional, how do you answer that question if asked?
- Would schools request this line of questioning?
If they were looking strictly at perfect scores and grades, they could fill a class by multiples. They are looking for more. Also Depends whether you said you want to study math or engineering in school. If you want to study Drama, I don’t think your Calculus score will be a deal breaker. If there are special—very special—circumstances write an update to AO.
tbh, a lot of interviewers do a lot of stuff on their own that’s against school guidelines. my harvard interviewer asked for my personal statement and my resume. be prepared for curveballs like that.
oh ok thanks. I’m applying as a biochemistry or public health major.
I wouldn’t worry. It’s a hard class. I’m in AP calculus and never made a B in high school until end of Fall term—calculus. It’s water under the bridge now—gotta move forward, but I feel ya Bruh… I’m in the same boat with that dang B.
And I’m doing Biochem too!!!
Ya, fs. let’s hope a semester of calculus won’t spell the end of 4 years of hard work.
My D was not asked about grades or scores by her Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, Columbia, Stanford, or MIT interviewer.
My son has had several interviews (Harvard, Cornell, Northwestern, MIT etc) and in none of these has he been asked for anything related to his grades or test scores. They have all been very much about his interest in the particular school, his activities outside of school, his high school experience etc. So I am surprised to hear this.
I interview for Princeton and for what it’s worth, the university specifically asks interviewers not to ask applicants for their test scores, transcripts, and so forth.
My son was just sent a form by his Harvard interviewer to fill out prior to their call. It includes questions about his favorite classes, EC, and test scores.
Princeton and MIT didn’t ask for any information upfront.
Good luck everyone!
For my kid’s interview, the interviewer asked for a resume that listed activities and extracurriculars in order to review talking points before the call. The interviewer specifically asked my kid to remove all standardized test scores, GPAs, and grades as Harvard does not permit interviewers to have access to those.
It’s very interesting to see the different methodologies from interviewer to interviewer.
Good luck everyone!!!
Can confirm. Only during my Harvard interview, my interviewer asked me about my test scores, GPA, coursework etc. I wasn’t that worried because my stats are high, but I found it odd that he asked at all.
For deferral applicants, do they get interview at all as never offered one in EA. And when you upload LOCI to the portal. Would the admissions get notification at all.
Based upon interviewer availability.
They see the updates.
@skieurope Thank you!
Does Harvard use likely letters?
Yes. But the vast majority of accepted students will not get a Likely Letter.
My D23 got one – applied Harvard for RD, and she is/was not an athlete.
