Harvard college question?

I am from Bangladesh. And I know about
Harvard, other Ivy league or US schools
admission process and that ec is really very imp
with excellect grades. I have kind of an avarage
ec but I have excellent grades.A+ in all sub
(physics,mathbiology,chemistry,Bangla,English, Social science,relegion) GPA 5 out of 5. I will take
the sat tests soon. But I was wondering if I get
2400 in SAT 1 and get 800 in all the 3 subject
tests.then will I have kind of a guaranteed( i
know nothing can guarantee but still kinda
there) chance getting into Harvard?

someone answer please :D

Getting a 2400 and 3x 800s in subject tests will get you noticed but certainly not guaranteed. But saying you’ll get 2400 and 3x 800s is one thing. Getting them is another. Good luck.

If perfect stats are all you have, then I would say no. To Harvard, if you don’t have anything else, there’s no reason to pick you over a 2300+, 3.9+, top 2% student with some other dimensions to him/her. That being said, with perfect stats, you will have SOME slack on ECs, though there’s no guarantee.

However, if it makes you feel better, I would say you are in at least one ivy (assuming you aren’t asking for too much aid).

Every Harvard hopeful aims for perfect stats…the reality is that very few of them achieve it. Aim to be the very best, in more than just a few test scores.

what’s the EC?

Thanks thats what I wanted to know. Actually i don’t have great ec just an avarage ec. My ec:
1.music(10 years, tons of local, national shows, many school programme ,other church choir and progamme)
2.drill/display (11,12)
3.debate (9,10,11,12)
4.badminton (9,10,11,12)
5.sing in the church choir since i was a kid and still do,youth comittee,
6.bible study convenor.
7.volunteer at a foundation that works for poor kids
thats all I have thats why I was asking the question because my ec is like an avarage ec. So what do u think with these ec’s and perfect scores what would be my chances?

Become captain of the badminton team, get the church choir to do a series of fundraisers for really good causes, get a leadership position in debate and you’re set

You scored an A+ in English Language and still dont know the spellings of religion.
Makes perfect sense. Harvard will definitely take you.

saeedajmal, sorry for the spelling mistake, was not looking on the screen while typing, lol

successman,thanks

and english is my second language btw

@saeedajmal- a CC post is hardly evidence of one’s liguistic capabilities =D

@amytalks- sorry, don’t have much constructive advice to give you since my own fate will be sealed in three days time, but I’d say try to make the most of what you have now. I wouldn’t say you should follow successman’s plan of action exactly (though I don’t think he meant it that way either), but try to get leadership positions in as many of your ECs as possible- and focus more on results and accomplishments rather than variety. Quality, over quantity- always.

Good luck! =D

leo118,thanks for your advice and good luck, hope you get accepted to your dream college

If international applications from Bangladesh are considered anything like those from India, I can tell you there has to be “something else”.

A 2400 will put your foot in the door, but the door weighs a million tons and you somehow gotta push it. I know a student who scored #1 on the JEE (which is the entrance exam for the Indian Institutes of Technology, one of the hardest systems from which to receive acceptance) across India, topped the CBSE exams for mathematics, topped Indian olympiads in like math and physics but was rejected (a 1500 SAT CR + M, mind you).

You have to convey to them some spark. Intellectual, creative, critical, sexual, don’t ask me. But some sort of spark, some sort of grander kinkiness. Give them that and then you’re in. This is useless advice, because no one can tell you what that spark is. But I can guarantee that if you get in you have that spark. An artistic insight, a command of the noosphere, something that most don’t. A 2400 only correlates with that greater being.

The question you need to ask is not “if I get a 2400 and a 4.0 and a this and a that, will I get in”. Useless, I know, utterly useless advice that everyone knows.

@Challenged, SEXUAL, really?

It’s one of the many sparks (in concert with “intellectual, creative, and critical”) that spices our lives. Yes, really.

well now that I think of it Playboy Bangladesh does have a certain ring to it.

And that would be counted by the adcoms as entrepeneurship. lolz

@challenged,you sound weird, where does sexual spark come in the admission process,i am applying for college not for a role in a movie. I believe your true spirit of wanting to learn something new every moment of your life and that burning passion to learn and succeed is the spark in this process. Whatever your achieve ,earn it in the right and decent way,a true honest human being is what makes you different and that is what the so called spark i believe.
