Harvard=Columbia?

I know I'm going to get grilled for asking this because the answer is overt, but not at the same time.

Is Columbia just as hard to get into ED/EA as Harvard?

What I'm saying is, would it matter where I applied if I had the same chances?

Thanks!

(P.S. URM male :-) at a medical magnet school, top 25% of 179, if that helps)

All Ivy League schools are difficult to get into.

There's only slight acceptance rate among these colleges.

Someone might go into detail and criticize me by putting up websites that have accurate statistic, but my point is that acceptance rate to all Ivy League schools is very low in general.

I think Columbia is "hurting" for URMs more than Harvard?

Also, Harvard is definately more selective than Columbia. Columbia is still extremely selective however.

I'm pretty sure Columbia beats Harvard in URM admits.

there was a ridiculous percentage of minorities and int'l students on campus at Columbia. with the internationals, the NYC globalism attracts them especially - they know they can find something in some neighborhood that'll make them feel at home here, it's cheaper to fly home, etc etc. it's also right next to harlem, and not too far south of washington heights, a major hispanic neighborhood. Harvard can't say the same thing: cambridge is whiter than bill gates.

Sincerely,
Columbia grad who grew up in boston, worked in cambridge, and now lives in harlem

So Harvard would be harder to get into for URMs than Columbia?

Harvard is harder to get into for everyone than Columbia.

ED Columbia is markedly easier (though still extremely difficult) to be accepted to than Harvard SCEA.

Those two are really different. Do you really want to be bound to one or the other, or do you just like the name that comes on the sweatshirt?

The name...in all honesty. There are things I like about Columbia, and of course I'd rather go to Harvard for financial reasons, but I want to use my ED wisely. I know yall' are going to give me the spiel about picking a college right for me. I will feel comfortable everywhere, in all honest.

FYI, Harvard admitted 20.7% of its SCEA applicants last year. Columbia admitted 23.2% of ED applicants. Harvard's rate should be slightly higher than 20.7% because that doesn't factor in admits who were initially deferred.

But I assume that Harvard had more applicants?
