Hi,

I've been interested in computers since I was 13. I took one CS course at Harvard and never took another one again with the exception of an independent study (which was also classified as math and linguistics). Unless your interests are highly theoretical, I'd stay far away.

Does anyone have any experience with taking 121 as their first CS class at Harvard?

Can't answer your question; maybe you should ask the CS 121 professor?

Out of curiosity, what kind of preparation do you have? CS 121 looks quite ambitious for a first course.

shravas - CS121 is essentially a math class. It's a good class, and I've heard positive things about Harry Lewis, but it's also very difficult. If you'd like, you can see problem sets here: Problem Sets and Solutions

If you're into that sort of theoretical stuff, it'd be a great first class, as it's a prereq for many courses of that type. But if you're into actual programming, I'd recommend CS 50. You could, of course, take both... although that'd be a lot of hours spent on problem sets.

MIT has adopted Python in some of its major course 6
offerings and I was curious as to what degree is the use
of Python prevalent as a formal langauge in courses or
otherwise (independent study research) at H?
