Harvard cross-admit edge apparently growing

So your post about Charlotte Simmons is a reference to the Duke lacrosse mess, I presume. And that fits right in on page 10 of an ancient thread about how great Harvard is. Sure, makes perfect sense to me.

You probably posted to the wrong thread by mistake. You must have been aiming at this thread:

Hazmat in all his glory. He, of course, never doubted which school had been the primary "Charlotte Simmons" model!

or the fact that in the face of 10+ percent gains in aplications at ivies such as dartmouth and penn, harvards applications FELL!

Comparing aggregate numbers of applicants between two schools wouldn't tell you a thing about the quality of applicants to either school. But statistics about which school is chosen by a desirable applicant who is admitted to more than one school (the subject that Byerly brought up to begin this thread) at the very least tells you which school is more desirable to the admitted applicant who has the power to choose.

Apps rise and fall periodically, often in response to what happened the year before.

This year, apps at Harvard "fell" from 22,796 to 22,753 - by 43 applicants - after jumping 15% the year before.

Last year, apps "FELL" at Yale from 19,682 to 19,448. (-234).

The year before, apps virtually PLUNGED at Princeton from 15,726 to 13,695. (- 2,031).

Over time, apps are up at virtually all schools. Its generally not wise to pee in your pants over the result in a single year.

Early on in my relationship with my now dear friend, she let it slip that her husband, the doctor, graduated from Harvard Med. I said " Wow, Harvard Med! George really is a smart one!"

Her reply, in a delightfully wry tone, " Yeah? Not smart enough to remember to take the garbage out on Tuesday nights."

I love her. She cracks me up. Anyway, just thought I'd lighten it up with a little humor.
