Has anyone set up an e-mail account at Harvard yet? I thought our e-mail address was going to be something with our first and last names, but the one that they're suggesting to me is my last name followed by a two -digit number. I don't like it, but I don't think I can change it. There is a check-off space next to the e-mail suggestion like I have a choice, but there's only one choice. How has this been working for other people? By the way, setting up a PIN and password is ridiculously annoying. Nothing I came up with passed the "strength test," so it took 2 hours to create my PIN, and I still haven't created my e-mail account password yet.

I got it... I don't know!

my last name followed by a two -digit number.

Yeah, unfortunately, that's pretty standard for an Asian last name, because chances are, not only is cho@fas already taken, jcho@fas, jmcho@fas, and possibly even johncho@fas are already taken, too.

If your name isn't taken they'll give you a choice between first initial followed by last name, last name only, and first initial with middle initial and full last name.

I took last name only and yes the pin and password is pretty annoying but I got it on my 1st try (now let's see if I can remember it).

what about macho@fas..

Seriously! The PIN is so annoying. I wanted to use my password that I use for everything, but it wouldn't let me, saying I needed capital letters and numbers and everything. And what's with that quiz? Only Harvard, I tell you.

wait, you harvard '09 people already have your email?! No fair!

seriously, only harvard would give you a quiz before letting you set up your email acct. only harvard.

It's not just email either - I'm typing this whilst a VPN connection to Harvard is running away in the background...

They offered me last name only, but I took first initial and last name, since I thought it was slightly more personal...

aghhh the pin thing was really really really annoying. it kept rejecting my passwords for odd things--like "dictionary word (reverse order)." ***?

i'm currently waiting the 1.5 hours before my account is set up so that i can go get a facebook account. mwahaha.

I just used the "create random PIN" function on the page, until it came up with one I thought I could probably remember.

I think college e-mails were created just for Facebook. Wait, that's logically wrong, but that's what it has become... for me anyway.

Ooh, we can go on facebook now? What's the link?

And you had to get at least 90% on the quiz to get through! I found that incredibly funny.

NO FAIR NO FAIR NO FAIR! ugg! yale doesnt give out email until July 15th-that means no facebook!!! BOO!

Is it http://facebook.harvard.edu? I tried it, and it won't let me go on. It says, "Not Authorized. You must be an FAS student, faculty, or staff to access the Harvard College facebook. Please contact webmaster@fas.harvard.edu if you have any questions." after I put in my ID and PIN. I created my PIN 2 days ago, so it should work. But it doesn't.

Erm...that's the official Harvard University Facebook. As in, the Harvard College official directory, which you get put it automatically when you enroll. You can't view it yet because you're not technically a Freshman yet.

You'll be wanting www.facebook.com :)

actually it's www.thefacebook.com

Found it! :)

My mistake :)

btw. students' email addresses are cut off at 8 characters... so you won't always be able to get your full name.
