Harvard Early Action

Well, I'm still waiting. Are admissions offices open on Saturdays? I was hoping for news today. Doesn't look too probable. Anyway, why not kill some time with something other than nail-biting? What are my chances at Harvard Early ACtion?

SAT I:1600
SAT II Spanish: 780
SAT II Literature: 800
SAT II World History: 800
SAT II Math iic: 800
Class rank: 1/700something
GPA: 4.0
President of three clubs, all academic honor societies
Extensive volunteer work
Some job experience (tutoring)
9 Student of the Year Subject Awards
State reader of the year
4th place in state extemporaneous speaker
etc.

So, if you made it through all that, what do you think?

Nice stuff.

Decisions for Harvard come out by e-mail on Tuesday, December 14th @5pm.

Good luck!

I don't see anything too impressive, but good luck with H.

Jerod

Nothing too impressive?

HE GOT A ****ING 1600!!!!!!!!!! This board is hilarious sometimes.

i think you have great scores, but harvard is mostly looking at ecs since EVERYONE has great scores there... that said, your ecs are good but not great. in any case, i think you have a very good chance of admission. good luck :)

you won't get in. only the rich and famous get into harvard.

sorry to burst your bubble.

your ECs suck. and your sats are alright.

the harvard adcom for my area once said that once you're over a certain threshold, like a 1450 for the SAT, then standardized tests cease to play a large role, because, as harpingchic said, most applicants test well. that said, no offense, but i don't see amazing ECs - academic honor societies are generally not given as much weight, even if you are president, because everyone gets into them. and beyond that, your only real ECs seem to be speech events. howevever, if you have extensive awards in that area, that may be a hook.

but with all that said, i wish you the best of luck. you're clearly someone who is intelligent and motivated, and i'm sure that came out on your app.

I suppose I gave too much of an abbreviate resume...Let me try again...

awesome that you're obviously one of the best students at your school, but it might be a problem if harvard and most of the ivies look more for regional/state/national level awards.

from your honor societies it seems like you're into music and spanish. do you have any activities involving those? those might be worth mentioning, esp in conjunction. has your school it's academic team won major competitions? (if so, those might be worth mentioning too, even though they're not individual awards)

just a few thoughts... good luck =)

780 SAT II Spanish. Therein lies the hook.

Joey

out of curiousity, what school do you attend? i wonder if we've ever played you before in quizbowl (besides, a whole bunch of kids went to furman this summer)

anyway, again, i hope you emphasized the awards and the like on your app. however, they still seem very commonplace and not all that interesting (although i'm sure you worked hard to get them and i applaud you for that). i'm just not sure how impressed the adcoms will be because everyone is going to be ladden with a number of ECs

omnicient, ur face is not impressive.

beramod...teehee. Thanks.
Yes, I know I'm fairly boring, but I do have the top of everything academic. I was hoping that counts for something. And being from Georgia, perhaps... Who knows? My essay was counted as good by some fairly harsh critics, and my recs were outstanding. One of them was written by an awarded authors. I hate being hopeful. It can be very painful. But I'm still excited...

I think you need to bring up your SAT scores

I entirely agree :-) If only I could take it again! haha. ONce was enough thank you very much

lol, im just playing with you, but you prob will get in

You were right! I'm in!

Congratulations! Be sure to get a warm coat - the wind off the Charles River gets really cold!

Congrats,I hope you enjoy Harvard!

Congrats on a great accomplishment!

By the way, my friend, who happens to also do extemp, was also admitted by Harvard EA.
